On April 11, Army Corps 34 said that the unit had completed the repatriation of 12 martyrs' remains in Doch 1 village area (Ia Ly commune, Gia Lai province).
Previously, the search was deployed from local people's information about the accidental discovery of a cave with many household items suspected of being related to soldiers in wartime.
Upon receiving the news, from April 6 to 8, the Corps 34 Martyrs' Remains Collection Team urgently organized forces to approach the scene to survey, search and discover 12 martyrs' remains.
Continuing to expand the scope, the search force recorded more important signs, consolidating the perception that this is a concentrated burial area for martyrs.
At the scene, the remains were all heavily decomposed due to time, mainly small bone fragments, teeth and many artifacts such as: hammocks, parachute fabric, iron pens, AK magazines, buttons, rubber sandal soles, information cords, toothbrushes, medicine bottles, military insignia, iron bowls...
According to documents, this area was once the operating area of units under Regiment 609, Regiment 66, Regiment 24, Regiment 320 and agencies of the General Staff Department, Logistics Department of the Central Highlands Front (B3) in the period 1966-1969.
From 2020 to now, in the Chu Pa mountain area (Ia Ly commune), the Corps 34 Martyrs' Remains Collection Team has searched and exhumed 46 martyrs' remains.
Currently, the martyrs' remains have been brought back for preservation, awaiting the organization of a memorial service and burial according to regulations. The Corps 34 Martyrs' Repatriation Team will continue to expand the search area in Doch 1 village area to not miss any remaining graves.
