On June 27, Lao Cai Provincial Police said that Van Ban Commune Police had just praised and presented gifts to encourage Ms. La Thi Dao (born 1958, residing in Ban Ma village, Van Ban commune) for her honest actions, picking up lost items and proactively finding a way to return them to the person who lost them.
Previously, at about 8:30 am on June 26, in a heavy rain, Ms. Dao quietly put on an old hat and temporarily put on a raincoat to the Van Ban Commune Police headquarters to hand over a Vivo Y01 mobile phone.
She said she picked up the phone on the afternoon of June 25 on her way back from the market, passing through the Van Ban commune stadium area. After picking it up, she waited for the person who dropped it to contact her to get the property back, but no one came to find her.
Not wanting the phone to be lost for longer, the next morning, despite the heavy rain, she still brought the property to the police agency with the desire to find the owner soon.
Other people's property, why keep it. Losing property is very pitiful, you have to return it to them," Ms. Dao shared.
Immediately after receiving it, Van Ban Commune Police quickly verified and identified the owner as Le Ngoc Anh (born 2011, residing in Ban Ma village, Van Ban commune). The phone was returned to the child on the same morning.
According to Van Ban Commune Police, what moved many officials was not only the act of returning the lost property but also Ms. Dao's situation.
At the age of 68, her life is still full of difficulties. Every day, she makes a living by collecting scrap metal, collecting scrap metal, taking advantage of wading streams to catch crabs and snails to sell to earn extra income. Every amount of money she earns is exchanged for hardship and days of hard work.
However, before the property she picked up, she had no intention of keeping it, but only hoped that the person who lost it would soon find her things again. That simple choice has impressed many people with her honesty and beautiful living spirit.
To recognize her kindness, police officers of Van Ban commune went to her house to visit, encourage and give her 5 million VND and a gift.
The unit said that the gift is not large but shows respect for a beautiful action, and at the same time wishes to contribute to sharing some of the difficulties in her life.
Van Ban Commune Police also encourage people when they pick up property dropped by others to proactively notify or hand it over to functional agencies for verification and return to the legal owner.
According to Lao Cai Provincial Police, Ms. La Thi Dao's actions are a simple but humane gesture. The image of an elderly woman quietly carrying lost property to the police station in the rain, and then being visited by police officers in the rain at her home to show gratitude, has contributed to spreading the message of honesty, kindness and responsibility in the community.
