New low pressure officially strengthens into a storm at sea

Dương Đông |

Depression 99S over the southwest Indian Ocean officially strengthens into tropical storm 29S, likely to intensify rapidly in the coming days.

According to low pressure news, the latest storm from the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), storm 29S is currently about 496 km south-southeast of Diego Garcia Island, moving southwest at a speed of about 7 km/h in the past 6 hours.

The maximum sea wave recorded is about 4.6 m, showing quite strong rough seas conditions.

In the weather forecast and short-term storm forecast, storm 29S will continue to move along the northwest edge of the subtropical high pressure for about the next 2 days. After that, this storm tends to shift southward, before circling through the high pressure axis and accelerating in a southeast direction.

Storm intensity is forecast to increase rapidly in the next 12 hours, with the possibility of a rapid intensification phase occurring in the next 12-36 hours.

After 36 hours, the storm will continue to strengthen but at a slower rate, peaking in about 2-3 days. The maximum intensity is expected to be about 150 km/h, even higher in reality.

However, after peaking, storm 29S will gradually weaken into a low pressure area when entering an unfavorable environment with reduced sea surface temperature, dry air and increased strong winds. It is expected that in the next 4-5 days, the storm will transition to a subtropical state and decrease in intensity significantly.

Although storm 29S is operating far from the mainland, this is still a noteworthy weather development, accompanied by forecasts of rain and strong winds in international waters.

Tourists planning to travel by sea or to Indian Ocean areas need to closely monitor weather forecasts and storm forecasts to ensure safety throughout the journey.

Meanwhile, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the day and night of April 2, the weather in the sea areas is relatively stable.

The North and South of the Gulf of Tonkin to the sea area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will have light rain in some places, southeast to south wind level 4-5, waves 1.5-2.5m high, sea at an average level.

The sea areas from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the central to southern East Sea area, including the Truong Sa special zone and the Gulf of Thailand, have rainless weather, visibility over 10km, light wind, low waves of 0.5-1.5m, favorable for sea tourism and outdoor activities.

Especially the North East Sea area has southeast to south wind level 4, waves 2.0-3.0m high, tourists need to pay attention when participating in offshore trips.
