Tropical depression makes landfall, causing heavy rain in the North and Central regions

After entering the mainland of the Central region, the tropical depression weakened into a low pressure area on the evening of September 13.

National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, September 13th, by 7:00 PM on September 13th, the tropical depression had weakened into a low pressure area over the western area of Quang Tri province. The center of the low pressure area is about 17.3 degrees North latitude - 106.3 degrees East longitude. The strongest wind in the center of the low pressure area decreased to below level 6, i.e. below 39km/h.

Forecast for the next 12 hours, the low pressure area will move in a West-Northwest direction, traveling about 10km per hour, continuing to weaken and gradually dissipate. However, the circulation of the system will still cause heavy rain in many areas in the coming days.

Due to the influence of the low pressure, from the evening of September 13 to September 15, Thanh Hoa and South Quang Tri will have heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 150-300mm, locally over 400mm. The area from Nghe An to North Quang Tri will have heavy to very heavy rain, common rainfall of 200-400mm, locally over 500mm.

In the Northern region, on the night of September 13, the midland and delta areas of the Northern region, the south of Son La and Phu Tho provinces will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 20-50mm, locally over 100mm.

From September 14 to September 15, heavy rain will continue to occur in the midlands and delta of the Northern region, in the south of Son La, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces. Common rainfall is 70-150mm, locally over 200mm. The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rains with intensity over 100mm in 3 hours.

In addition, in the late afternoon and evening of September 13, Hue City, Da Nang City, the Central Highlands and Southern regions will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 10-30mm, locally heavy rain over 70mm.

From the night of September 15 to September 16, moderate to heavy rain will continue to appear in the midlands and delta of the Northern region, Phu Tho province, southern provinces of Son La, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai, common rainfall of 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm. The area from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh has moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 40-80mm, locally very heavy rain over 150mm.

In general, from the evening of September 13 to September 16, the total rainfall in Thanh Hoa and South Quang Tri is commonly 200-400mm, locally over 500mm. The area from Nghe An to North Quang Tri is commonly 250-450mm, locally over 600mm. The Midlands and Northern Delta, Phu Tho province, and the South of Son La, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces are commonly 100-200mm, locally over 300mm.

In thunderstorms, people and tourists need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. The meteorological agency warns that heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas, while increasing the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides on slopes.

Tourists should avoid going outside when it rains heavily and the wind is strong to ensure safety.
