Tropical depression Luis is approaching the mainland Philippines, causing rain in many areas.

According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), tropical depression Luis is approaching the mainland Philippines.

As of 8 pm on August 2 (local time), the center of the tropical depression is located at about 15.9 degrees North latitude - 123.7 degrees East longitude, about 220 km east of Baler, Aurora.

The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression reached 55 km/h, gusting up to 70 km/h. The tropical depression is moving in a West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 15 km/h.

The tropical depression is forecast to strengthen into a storm in the morning of August 3.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, from now until the afternoon of August 3rd, the provinces of Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Aurora and Quezon are forecast to have rainfall from 50-100 mm.

From the afternoon of August 3rd to the afternoon of August 4th, heavy rain with rainfall of 50-100 mm will expand to La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Manila metropolitan area, Cavite, Batangas and Rizal.

Meanwhile, the Occidental Mindoro area will be mainly affected by the Southwest monsoon with moderate to heavy rain.

From the afternoon of August 4 to the afternoon of August 5, PAGASA forecasts that Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain due to the combined impact of monsoons.

The Philippine meteorological agency warned that prolonged rain could increase the risk of localized flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas. People and tourists are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and take proactive measures to prevent natural disasters.
