As of the afternoon of July 17, Typhoon Elida is located in the central Pacific region. The strongest wind near the storm center is 102 km/h.
Storm Elida is moving in a West direction at a speed of about 17 km/h, but has begun to gradually shift to the West-Northwest direction. It is forecast that the storm will continue to change direction to the Northwest on July 17 and maintain this direction throughout the weekend.
JTWC forecasts that Typhoon Elida will strengthen to typhoon level on July 17. The typhoon will reach maximum intensity on the evening of July 17 or early morning of July 18. After that, the typhoon will gradually weaken, likely to turn into a tropical depression after about 96 hours.
Meanwhile, 4 tropical depressions are operating scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. However, due to being quite far from the mainland, storms and tropical depressions only cause thunderstorms at sea, not much affecting the mainland areas around the area.
In the East Sea, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the morning of July 17, Bach Long Vi special zone had strong southwest to south winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7. The eastern sea area of the North East Sea area has scattered showers and thunderstorms.
During the day and night of July 17, the area north of the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Lam Dong will have strong southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusts of level 7-8; rough seas; waves 1.5-3.0m high.
In addition, on July 17 and night, the north of the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand, and the east of the Northern East Sea area will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind at level 7-8 and waves over 2.0m high.
