Forecast of weak cold air, rain in the North until the end of May, with thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning...

According to the rain forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, thunderstorms will continue in all three regions.

The North is forecast to receive heavy rain from now until the night of May 29. According to experts from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, weak cold air compressing the low pressure trough combined with additional wind convergence at an altitude of 1,500m causes prolonged rain at the end of May in the North.

The cold air mass in the North and North Central regions in the last summer of May 2025 caused the temperature to drop sharply, in some places below 20 degrees Celsius, accompanied by heavy rain. This phenomenon is rare but not unusual.

Weather forecast in the North, from the night of May 28 to early morning of May 30, there will be rain with a common amount of 40-100mm. Some places may have very heavy rain, locally exceeding 250mm.

Weather forecast in the North Central region, from early morning of May 29 to early morning of May 30, the common rainfall is from 30-70mm, locally over 120mm.

Weather forecast for the South Central and Central Highlands, from the night of May 28 to the night of May 29, it is forecasted to continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, common rainfall of 40-100mm, some places over 100mm.

In the South, from the night of May 28 to the night of May 29, rain is forecast to be 30-60mm, some places may have very heavy rain, over 150mm.

The situation of rain in the South and the Central Highlands due to the influence of low pressure grooves with axes 23-25 degrees North latitude continued to be compressed and pushed the south to the south of the continental high pressure in the North. Low pressure groove with shaft at 8-11 degrees North latitude tend to raise the axis slowly to the north.

In particular, it is necessary to note the risk of heavy rain, with total rainfall exceeding 150mm within just 3 hours at some points.

People and tourists need to be on guard during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of extreme weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

The warning level of natural disaster risk due to heavy rain is currently at level 1.

From May 30 onwards, heavy rain in the above areas will gradually decrease. However, people and tourists still need to continue to monitor updated news to proactively respond.

Prolonged heavy rains can cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial parks. In addition, the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides on steep slopes also needs special attention, especially in mountainous and midland areas.

Tourists avoid trekking, mountain climbing, and forest travel in the last days of May due to the risk of landslides and flash floods in the northern mountainous areas. Do not travel on mountain passes or slippery roads at night or during heavy rain. Notify relatives or accommodation facilities of the route to ensure safety in case of emergency.
