Forecast of the risk of new storms appearing in the East Sea in late 2025 and early 2026

Weather forecast for the next month, there is little chance of storms or tropical depressions appearing in the East Sea.

According to weather forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the beginning of 2025 to now, there have been 21 storms/tropical depressions active in the East Sea. That includes 15 storms and 6 tropical depressions. The record-breaking figure was previously set in 2017 with 20 points.

Weather forecast from now until January 20, 2026, there is little chance of storms and tropical depressions appearing in the East Sea.

From January to February 2026, there is also little chance of storms appearing in the East Sea. From April to June 2026, storms or tropical depressions in the East Sea will be equivalent to the average of many years. However, there is little chance of storms/tropical depressions making landfall during this period.

According to the average data of many years from December 21 last year to January 20 next year, the number of storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea is 0.5 storms and the number of storms/tropical depressions making landfall in Vietnam is 0.1.

From April to June, there will be about 1.8 storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea, with 0.3 of them making landfall.

It is forecasted that from now until January 21, 2026, the total rainfall nationwide will generally be 5 - 15mm lower than the average of many years. In particular, the provinces from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, coastal provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and northern Khanh Hoa have total rainfall 15 - 40mm lower than the average of many years, some places are lower.

Weather forecast for the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and the north of Nghe An has a total rainfall of 15 - 30mm. The southern area of Nghe An - Ha Tinh will have total rainfall from 40 - 80mm. The area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, the coastal areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak provinces and northern Khanh Hoa will have total rainfall from 60 - 130mm (some places over 130mm). The Southern region has a total rainfall of 20 - 40mm; the remaining areas have a total rainfall of 5 - 15mm.

From January to February 1, 2026, total rainfall across the country will generally be approximately the same as the average of many years. In particular, the Central and Southern Plateau regions are generally higher than the average of many years in the same period.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
