According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the evening of August 5 to the morning of August 7, the Northern and North Central regions will continue to experience moderate rain, heavy rain with thunderstorms, and locally very heavy rain. Tourists planning to visit mountainous provinces or travel through steep passes need to closely monitor weather developments to ensure safety.
In the past 24 hours, many localities in the North have recorded scattered showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain in some places. Rainfall from 7 am to 3 pm on August 5 at some points exceeded 50mm, of which Thuong Giap (Tuyen Quang) reached 116.4mm, Song Ran Lake (Quang Ninh) 63.8mm and Boc Bo (Thai Nguyen) 55.6mm.
Forecast from the evening of August 5 to the morning of August 7, the North and North Central regions will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 50-100mm, locally over 200mm. Notably, the meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain intensity over 100mm in 3 hours, which may cause rapid flooding in urban areas and low-lying areas.
In addition, in the late afternoon and night of August 5, the Central Highlands and Southeast regions also had scattered showers and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 15-30mm, locally over 80mm.
In thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can occur, affecting outdoor activities, tourism and traffic.
Experts recommend that tourists coming to the Northern mountainous provinces, North Central region, Central Highlands and Southeast regions limit participating in mountain climbing, trekking, camping or moving through streams, undercurrents and slopes during heavy rain. At the same time, it is necessary to regularly update weather forecasts and comply with the instructions of local authorities.
According to forecasts, from the afternoon of August 7, heavy rain in the North and North Central regions will tend to gradually decrease, but people and tourists still need to be wary of the risk of flash floods, landslides and flooding in areas that have had prolonged rain for many consecutive days.
