Hanoi suddenly has heavy thunderstorms after hot weather

Hanoi weather has scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain.

On the afternoon of July 19, Hanoi suddenly changed to heavy thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind after a day of hot weather.

According to Accuweather, the weather is forecast to be cloudy, with high temperatures and the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially from around 4pm onwards. The rain and thunderstorms lasted for at least 60 minutes, the actual temperature dropped after the rain and accompanied by the risk of strong gusts of wind, lightning and heavy showers.

Hanoi weather forecast for July 20, cloudy, thunderstorms are expected in the morning, then the rain will decrease but still keep the gloomy level. AccuWeather said there is a chance of about 40% thunderstorms, concentrated in the morning and lasting until the afternoon, with scattered showers.

Hanoi will have thunderstorms for two consecutive days, with the risk of lightning and strong winds. People and tourists bring umbrellas and raincoats, limit outdoor activities, especially in the late afternoon to ensure safety.

According to the latest weather forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting today (July 19), the mountainous and midland areas of the North and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy rain. Some places recorded over 50mm of rainfall between 07:00 and 15:00, including: Thi Hoa (Cao Bang) 53.9mm, Tan Phuong 2 (Yen Bai) 51.2mm, Thanh Dong (An Giang) 60.2mm.

It is forecasted that this evening and tonight (September 19), the mountainous and midland areas of the North will continue to have showers and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with common rainfall of 15-30mm, some places over 70mm.

The Central Highlands and the South also have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain from 10-30mm, some places over 60mm.

From the afternoon of July 21 to July 23, the North and North Central regions are likely to experience a widespread period of heavy rain. The common rainfall is from 100-200mm, locally over 300mm. In particular, the Northeast region, the Northern Delta, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are likely to have very heavy rain with total rainfall of 200-350mm, some places exceeding 600mm.

Due to localized heavy rain with an intensity of over 150mm in 3 hours at some locations, there is a high risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes; flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial parks

People and tourists need to be on guard against tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. In particular, residents living in mountainous areas, along rivers and steep slopes need to closely monitor warnings of heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides from the early warning system to proactively prevent them.
