Cancel hotel rooms, postpone travel to avoid storm number 3 Yagi

To avoid storm No. 3 Yagi , many tourists planning to go to Cat Ba (Hai Phong) and Ha Long (Quang Ninh) had to change their schedules from September 6 to 8.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong (Hanoi) and her family planned to go to Ha Long for a vacation from September 6 to 8. said they had to postpone the trip due to storm No. 3.

“With relatives returning from abroad, my family and I had planned to go to Ha Long for fun. However, due to the storm, my family decided to postpone the trip until next weekend."

Ms. Phuong booked a hotel room in Ha Long City. When discussing the weather, the hotel agreed to help her family change the date.

“Safety comes first, the weather is safe, my family and I will continue the trip,” Ms. Phuong shared with Lao Dong.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7:00 a.m. on September 7, the center of storm No. 3 was at about 20.4 degrees North latitude; 108.2 degrees East longitude, in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Storm No. 3 Yagi is about 150km East Southeast of Quang Ninh-Thai Binh. The strongest wind near the storm's center is level 14 (150-166km/h), gusting to level 17, moving in a West Northwest direction at a speed of 15-20km/h.

Regarding the weather information, Ms. Hoang Thi Anh - manager of Sunflower Hotel in Cat Ba (Hai Phong) said that on September 7-8, the hotel had no room reservations.

“Given the danger of storm No. 3, I have advised and changed the schedule to another day for customers in need,” she said.

For guests who cancel their room 2-3 days before check-in, Ms. Anh's hotel supports refunding the deposit for guests.

Ms. Anh added that since the morning of September 6, many tourists staying at the hotel had checked out earlier than planned to leave the island in time.

“My hotel has both domestic and international guests staying. For international tourists who booked rooms from September 6 to 8, I have also informed them about the situation of storm No. 3 so that they can plan to postpone their stay,” said a hotel representative.

Big waves and strong winds on Do Son beach, Hai Phong on the morning of September 7 due to the influence of storm No. 3 Yagi.

From 11:00 a.m. on September 6, the Hai Phong City Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense announced the suspension of inland waterway transport activities, river ferries, sea ferries, and the Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car route.

All tourism and entertainment activities in coastal areas are also banned. Border guards use boats and canoes to patrol the bay, use loudspeakers to broadcast propaganda and guide people to evacuate to safe shelters.

As of noon on September 6, there are still 181 tourists on Cat Ba Island, including 104 international tourists and 77 Vietnamese tourists.

Cat Hai district proposed to support and reduce maximum service prices for guests, encouraging a 50% reduction in room service at accommodation establishments in case tourists are stuck and cannot return to the mainland in time due to the impact of storm No. 3.

The People's Committee of Co To District, Quang Ninh Province has issued a curfew order for the entire island district. The curfew order applies to people and vehicles (excluding functional forces on duty). The time starts from 10:00 p.m. on September 6 to 9:00 p.m. on September 7.

Tourism businesses are required to have a plan to ensure the safety of visitors staying there. As of 2 p.m. on September 5, the district had only two Vietnamese guests staying there, no foreigners.

At 6:00 a.m. on September 7, the entire Co To island district lost power due to the storm. On the night of September 6 and early morning of September 7, the entire Co To district evacuated nearly 800 people to a safe storm shelter to ensure living conditions.

Before 11pm on September 6, Thanh Lan Commune People's Committee proactively mobilized 69 households with degraded houses, corrugated iron roofs, and tiled roofs at risk of being blown off or collapsing to hotels, motels, and houses with solid flat roofs.
