As has become customary, New Year's Eve in the capital is one of the major holidays eagerly awaited by Hanoians and international tourists.
In 2025, the New Year atmosphere in the Capital became vibrant with many special cultural and artistic activities, attracting a large number of Western visitors to participate in New Year celebrations.
JP., a tourist from the US, shared that he had been in Vietnam for nearly a week to attend his friend's wedding.
Because he loved Hanoi so much, he decided to stay in Hanoi to celebrate the New Year. Feeling the excitement of the New Year's Eve atmosphere in Hanoi, the male tourist said this was the largest crowd he had ever been in.
Talking about the difference between celebrating New Year's Eve in Hanoi and his hometown, JP shared: "The way Vietnamese people celebrate New Year's Eve is quite different from my country. In my hometown, on New Year's Eve, instead of going out and watching fireworks, people often gather at friends' houses to have a party of course."
Isabelle, a tourist from Spain, also chose Hanoi to celebrate New Year's Eve. She has been in Vietnam for more than two weeks and loves the scenery and pace of life here.
Although she did not directly watch the fireworks display at midnight because she was walking in the old town, she still felt the joyful and bustling atmosphere around.
“There were really a lot of people on the streets. In my hometown, people usually spend this important time with family and friends, instead of going out like the Vietnamese,” Isabelle said.
Liam, from Australia, said that celebrating New Year's Eve in Hanoi is not only an occasion for locals to have fun but also an opportunity for tourists like him to experience Vietnam's unique culture.
“I see a combination of tradition and modernity in the way Vietnamese people celebrate the New Year. The atmosphere here is really special, leaving many memorable memories,” the male tourist said.
To welcome the New Year 2025, Hanoi City organized fireworks displays at 5 locations, including the Hoan Kiem Lake area in front of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Office and in front of the Hanoi Post Office.
The fireworks display will last 15 minutes from 0:00 to 0:15 on January 1, 2025, with a total of 3,600 high-altitude fireworks and 540 low-altitude fireworks.
The atmosphere at Hoan Kiem Lake and surrounding areas was bustling with thousands of residents and visitors waiting for the New Year's Eve moment. Thousands of vehicles were jammed on the roads leading to the city center as people flocked to countdown events and fireworks viewing locations.
