Tourists coming and leaving Hanoi during the 2026 New Year and Lunar New Year should proactively monitor road ban and traffic diversion information announced by functional agencies to choose appropriate routes.
Hanoi Department of Construction has just issued a traffic diversion and organization plan to reduce congestion at key gateways and traffic axes during the 2026 New Year holiday, Lunar New Year and the Binh Ngo Spring Festival season in the city.
According to the guidance issued on December 29, traffic diversion and vehicle regulation are being implemented on many roads in and out of Hanoi, serving the increasing travel demand of people during the Tet holiday.

Directions to Southern provinces
From the center of Hanoi to the southern provinces (Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa...):
City center - Phap Van - Cau Gie intersection - Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway.
Old National Highway 1 direction: Giai Phong - Ngoc Hoi - National Highway 1 - enter Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway at Van Diem or Dai Xuyen intersection.
National Highway 6 - Ba La intersection - road 21B - National Highway 38 to old National Highway 1 or to Vuc Vong intersection to get to Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway.
National Highway 6 (Nguyen Trai - Tran Phu - Quang Trung) - Phung Hung - southern axis - provincial road 427B - Thuong Tin station - Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway.
National Highway 6 to Xuan Mai town - Ho Chi Minh road - 21B road.
From the South to Hanoi:
Liem Tuyen intersection - provincial road 494 - National Highway 21B - National Highway 6 (Ba La intersection, Ha Dong).
The Vuc Vong intersection on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway goes in 2 directions:
Turn left to National Highway 38 - National Highway 21B - National Highway 6.
Turn right to National Highway 38 - Yen Lenh bridge - National Highway 39A - Provincial Road 379 - Ring Road 3 (Thanh Tri bridge).
Van Diem intersection: turn left to National Highway 1 - Provincial Road 429 - National Highway 21B - National Highway 6 (Ba La intersection, Ha Dong).
Thuong Tin intersection: go to provincial road 427 - to the southern main road - Phung Hung road (Ha Dong).
Northeast, North and Northwest
Hanoi goes Northeast (Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen...) and vice versa:
Ring Road 3 - Thanh Tri bridge - Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway.
Nhat Tan - Vo Nguyen Giap bridge - National Highway 18 to the Hanoi - Bac Giang or Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway.
Chuong Duong Bridge - Nguyen Van Cu - Ngo Gia Tu - Duong Bridge - Hanoi - Bac Giang Expressway.
Nhat Tan - Vo Nguyen Giap bridge - National Highway 18 to the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway.
Hanoi goes to the northern provinces (Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang...) and vice versa:
Thang Long - Vo Van Kiet bridge - National Highway 2 to the Hanoi - Lao Cai expressway;
Thang Long bridge - provincial road 23 - Me Linh road to National Highway 2;

East direction
Hanoi goes to Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and vice versa:
Co Linh road - Ring Road 3 intersection - Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway.

Old National Highway 5 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Duc Thuan) to Hai Duong.

Note road prohibitions, restrictions on trucks
Hanoi Department of Construction noted that from January 1, 2026, the city will pilot traffic organization adjustments, prohibiting trucks with a total volume of over 10 tons from circulating through the following areas during peak hours:
Mai Dich - Ho Tung Mau intersection.
Thang Long - Pham Hung - Khuat Duy Tien Avenue axis in the direction of Ring Road 3 elevated.
People and tourists should limit travel during peak hours, especially at the gateways to the Capital, expressway connecting routes and bus stations and train stations.
Tourists using personal vehicles need to check the traffic route in advance, comply with the instructions of functional forces and temporary signs.
For inter-provincial tourists, departure times should be arranged earlier than expected, prioritizing ring roads and expressways that are diverted to avoid congestion, ensuring safe and convenient journeys during the Tet peak period.
