The development of phones and social networks brings convenience but can also create distance in communication if people do not control how they use them.
According to Master of Psychology Bui Thi Hai Yen - Founder and CEO of NHC Vietnam Human Psychology and Development System, to maintain cohesion in relationships, each person needs to proactively adjust their technology usage habits and rebuild communication.
1. Spend time without a phone when you are together
Putting the phone down for certain periods of time helps couples focus on each other more. Direct chatting moments will create a feeling of closeness and real connection.
2. Focus on listening when communicating
When one person shares, full attention from the other person shows respect. Conversely, listening while using the phone can easily make the other person feel ignored and hurt.
3. Prioritize relationships
Phones only become a problem when they are prioritized over the person next to them. Being aware of what is important will help each person adjust their behavior and pay due attention to the other person.
4. Limit dependence on social networks
Social media can bring a sense of being cared for, but cannot replace direct connection. Reducing online time helps increase practical interaction opportunities and build more sustainable relationships.
5. Build positive communication habits every day
Just 15 - 30 minutes a day spent chatting and sharing without being interrupted by the device is enough to improve engagement. Small but regular habits will create big changes.
