How to guide children to study gently without arguing, helping children consciously progress

Applying the following ways to tutor children will help parents relieve pressure and end the "war" every night.

1. Change thinking: Be a "coach" instead of a "supervisor

Stress often begins when parents unintentionally turn themselves into controlling people, scrutinizing every small mistake of their children instead of being guides.

Stop doing it for someone else or sit and stare: Sitting close to observe each stroke or calculation will create a psychology of frustration and fear of mistakes for children. Create enough distance so that children do the test themselves and parents only appear when they really need help.

Focus on effort instead of the correct/wrong answer: When you do wrong, instead of being grumpy "Why did this simple problem also be wrong?", calmly suggest: "Check the second line again to see if you have found anything interesting?".

2. Establish "golden hours" and clear learning rules

Many arguments break out just because the child wants to play more, while parents force the child to go to the desk immediately as soon as they get home.

Agree on a schedule with your child: Let your child participate in building a schedule at home. Set a fixed rest and play time before starting school so that your child is psychologically comfortable and ready to cooperate.

Divide study time (Pomodoro method): Young children find it difficult to maintain concentration for too long. Divide the study session into stages of 20 - 25 minutes, interspersed with 5 minutes of relaxed rest. This helps your child's brain not be overloaded and less discouraged.

3. Control your parents' emotions before entering the desk

My child's study corner is often a place to endure the pressure and fatigue accumulated throughout the day from adult work.

5-second cooldown" rule: When you feel anger starting to erupt, take a deep breath, stand up and go outside to take a sip of water or count from 1 to 10. Absolutely do not scold or tear your child's notebook while losing composure.

Listen instead of imposing: If your child resists or refuses to do the exercise, gently ask the reason: "Are you tired?", "Where is this exercise making you uncomfortable?". When understood, children will quickly lower defensive barriers.

4. Building a positive learning environment and arousing self-awareness

Children's self-awareness does not come from beatings or threats, but from the joy of conquering knowledge.

Create a quiet study space: Turn off the TV, put away your phone and eliminate distractions around you. Parents' focus on their own work (such as reading books, working) is also a good example for their children to follow.

Recognize the smallest progress: Don't save specific compliments such as: "Today you finished your homework on time more than yesterday", "This handwriting you wrote very carefully". Timely encouragement will add motivation to help you confidently move forward.
