What is International Happiness Day?
International Day of Happiness was officially announced by the United Nations in 2012, with a message emphasizing happiness and peace as essential factors in human life. Through this day, the United Nations affirms that economic growth needs to go hand in hand with ensuring social welfare and environmental protection, thereby moving towards a better and more sustainable life.
International Day of Happiness has many profound meanings when honoring happiness as a core value of humanity. This is also a reminder that development is not only measured by economy but also must put people and the environment at the center. At the same time, this day contributes to promoting the spirit of solidarity, love and sharing in society, as well as raising awareness about mental health and balance in life.

Why choose March 20 as International Day of Happiness?
March 20th is chosen because it coincides with the equinox, when the sun is across the equator, making day and night time around the globe almost equal. This is a symbol of balance and harmony - the core values of happiness. This idea originated from Bhutan, a country famous for the National Happiness Index (GNH), where happiness is placed above purely economic growth indicators.
