Proactively adjust meals, increase water intake
At the age of over 70, Mr. Nguyen Van Du (Hanoi) said that summer is the time when he proactively changes his diet to help his body adapt better to hot weather.
In daily meals, he prioritizes cool, easy-to-digest dishes, and increases the amount of water to drink, especially after exercise.
Summer makes my body dehydrate quickly, especially after exercising. Therefore, I often eat light, cool dishes and drink more water to make my body feel comfortable," Mr. Du shared.
Similarly, Mr. Do Duy Hoa (Hanoi) also maintains the habit of drinking enough water and simplifying meals on days when temperatures rise. According to him, regular water supplementation helps the body reduce feelings of fatigue.
In the summer, my meals are often simplified and water is a top priority. Every day, I drink from 1.5 - 2 liters of water, starting immediately after waking up and before daily activities," Mr. Hoa said.
Balance nutrition and daily activities on hot sunny days
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS Bui Thi Nhung - Vice President of the Vietnam Nutrition and Diet Association, Head of the Nutrition Department of Sun Hospital, the elderly are the group that is easily affected by hot weather due to the decline in health and body adaptability.
In the elderly, health has already declined, so eating habits are also worse than before. The hot summer weather makes the body more tired, and also increases the risk of dehydration and electrolyte loss," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thi Nhung said.

In addition to adjusting the menu, the elderly need to build a suitable living schedule, ensuring a balance between eating, resting and exercising on hot days.
Elderly people should build a reasonable and balanced lifestyle between eating, resting and sleeping. In addition to the three main meals, you can add snacks when necessary; and maintain exercise and choose the time to go out in the early morning or late afternoon to limit exposure to the hot sun," the nutritionist said.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thi Nhung also noted that supplementing enough water and electrolytes is a factor that the elderly need to pay special attention to in the summer.
Elderly people need to replenish enough water and electrolytes to meet the needs of their bodies in hot weather conditions," the expert emphasized.
