Fear of failure makes many students procrastinate
Approaching graduation, instead of eagerly entering the labor market or continuing to study further, many students fall into a state of stopping. Fear of failure makes them delay making decisions, prolonging the vagueness in future orientation.
Pham Huong Tra (22 years old, a final year student in Hanoi) shared that Huong Tra once planned to go to work immediately after graduating. However, the closer to graduation day, the more confused she became.
I am afraid of going to work and not keeping up, not having enough ability, being judged as weak or failing. But if I continue studying, I am worried that I am avoiding reality, not having enough finance to continue studying further," said Huong Tra.
Similarly, Tran Quoc Bao (22 years old, Hai Phong) also fell into a procrastination situation. Throughout the time waiting for his graduation certificate, Bao continuously changed his decision between studying for a master's degree and looking for a job.
I feel that I am not ready for bigger decisions in my life. Every time I intend to submit a CV or register to study, I hesitate because I am afraid of choosing wrong and failing," friend Bao admitted.
In fact, this situation is not isolated. Many final year students are facing pressure from family, society and their own expectations. Prolonged delays not only lose opportunities but also make young people fall into a state of self-doubt, reduce motivation and lose direction.
Need to change the perception of failure
According to psychologist Nguyen Manh Cuong - NHC Vietnam Center for Human Development and Psychology, fear of failure is a common cause of procrastination in young people. However, it is important to change the perception of failure.
In fact, success is always built on the foundation of many failures. If you don't dare to try, young people will not have the opportunity to learn and develop," expert Manh Cuong emphasized.
In addition, experts also encourage students to learn how to break down goals. When facing big decisions such as choosing a career or continuing to study, looking at the overall situation can make them feel pressured and scared. Instead, breaking down goals into small, specific steps will help reduce the psychological burden.

For example, instead of thinking about having to find a suitable job immediately, you can start by completing your CV, learning about the industry or participating in internships. These small steps not only help you start more easily but also create a sense of progress, thereby increasing confidence," the expert said.
In addition, he also emphasized the importance of acting as soon as possible.
When there are things that can be done immediately, start doing them. Actions will help break the delay and create motivation for the next steps," the expert shared.
In the context of modern society, facing many choices is inevitable. However, instead of letting fear dominate, students need to learn to accept imperfection and dare to try.
