At noon on April 5, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City said that the first phase of the competency assessment exam had 133,489 candidates participating, reaching a rate of 98.33% compared to the registered number.
Previously, at the end of the registration period, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City said that there were more than 137,000 candidates registered for the exam.
The exam was held in 57 units in 15 provinces and cities, including: Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang, Can Tho and Ca Mau.
According to Ho Chi Minh City National University, the organization of the exam is deployed synchronously and closely in all stages. From printing, copying, and securing exam questions to transportation, all are carried out according to strict procedures, with the coordination of functional forces to ensure security and safety.
At the exam sites, invigilators, supervisors and support forces were fully trained, implementing the regulations correctly, contributing to helping the exam take place seriously and objectively.
The structure and content of the 2026 competency assessment exam will continue to be built on the basis of adjustments from 2025, in accordance with the 2018 General Education Program. The exam aims to comprehensively assess the university level learning ability of candidates, while increasing differentiation and ensuring fairness in admissions.
The results of the first phase of the exam are expected to be announced on April 17. Currently, the exam results have been used by more than 100 universities and colleges nationwide in admission consideration.
Ho Chi Minh City National University also informed that the registration time for the 2nd phase of the exam will take place from April 18 to the end of April 25.
The second round of the exam is expected to be held on May 24 in 36 units in 9 provinces and cities, including: Hue, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Dong Thap and An Giang.
The results of this exam are expected to be announced on June 6.
In 2025, the exam attracted about 152,000 candidates with more than 223,000 registrations, 111 higher education institutions used the results of this exam for admission, especially in the Ho Chi Minh City National University system, this method accounted for more than 56% of the total enrollment quota.
