The full moon of the first lunar month (also known as Nguyen Tieu Tet or Thuong Nguyen festival) has long been a long-standing tradition in the religious life of Vietnamese people.
Folk wisdom once concluded that: "Praying Buddha all year round is not as good as the full moon of the first lunar month".
In traditional beliefs, the full moon of the first lunar month is the time when heaven - earth - people harmonize, suitable for praying for peace, fortune and smooth progress. Therefore, many families prepare elaborate offerings to offer to gods and ancestors, with the desire to start the new year smoothly and have a peaceful family.
Besides the spiritual meaning, this occasion is also an opportunity for family members to reunite, remind each other to preserve family traditions, and strengthen the bond of family. Lunar New Year is also associated with many beautiful customs such as going to pagodas to worship Buddha, doing good deeds, and praying for blessings at the beginning of the year.
According to the perpetual calendar, the full moon of the first lunar month of Binh Ngo year 2026 falls on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 Gregorian calendar. This is considered the first full moon day of the new year, meaning a fulfilling and complete start.
