On the evening of November 28, 5 members of Kpop girl group NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) held an emergency press conference, announcing the termination of their exclusive contract with management company ADOR (under HYBE Group), starting from November 29.
NewJeans said they decided to terminate the contract because ADOR did not have the will and capacity to fulfill its responsibility to protect the artist. The trust between NewJeans and ADOR has been completely broken.
Previously, on November 13, NewJeans sent a notice letter to ADOR, requiring the company to remedy any serious breaches of the exclusive contract within 14 days from the date of receipt of the letter, otherwise the group would terminate the contract.
But ADOR's response letter was only sent to NewJeans about an hour before the press conference began.
After the press conference, ADOR expressed regret at NewJeans' decision, stated that the contract was still valid and hoped the group could meet with the company to discuss it again.
ADOR said: “We regret that NewJeans planned and held a press conference to terminate the exclusive contract without carefully considering before receiving a response to the demand letter.
As a party to the exclusive contract, ADOR has not breached any of its terms. A unilateral claim that trust has been breached cannot be grounds for termination.
The exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans members remains in effect. Therefore, we hope that future schedules will continue to be carried out with ADOR.”
The company added that it had repeatedly requested to meet with NewJeans without success. “Even now, we hope they will be open to meeting and having a sincere conversation,” ADOR wrote.
Finally, the company promised to do its best to support NewJeans in their group activities and help the group grow further as global artists.
In the press conference, in addition to announcing the termination of the contract with ADOR, NewJeans attracted attention when saying: “We did not violate the exclusive contract and have tried our best in all activities. Therefore, we do not need to pay any penalty fees.
On the contrary, it is ADOR and HYBE who are responsible for paying those contract penalties.”
NewJeans said they will still complete their previously scheduled activities and advertising contracts. At the same time, they expressed their determination to fight to own the group name NewJeans after leaving ADOR.
On the morning of November 29, NewJeans members flew to Japan to carry out a schedule for the TV station.
