US President Donald Trump said that the US and China will hold a trade talks on June 9 in London, UK.
The announcement was posted by Trump on the Truth Social platform, stating that Washington's representatives would include Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
The talks came after a phone call between President Donald Trump and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping of China. According to Mr. Trump, Mr. Tap Can Binh has agreed to reopen exports of rare earths and magnetes to the US, a move expected to help ease tensions in trade relations between the two largest economies in the world.
However, the Chinese side has not yet announced the list of representatives attending the meeting in London.
Previously, on May 12, the US and China reached a 30-day deal in Geneva (Switzerland) to lift some of the retaliatory tariffs that the two sides have imposed on each other since Donald Trump took office in January. However, this temporary agreement has not yet resolved potential risks that cause stress in bilateral relations.
The resumption of negotiations on June 9 is expected to pave the way for more concrete steps in normalizing trade relations between the US and China.
