Belonging to the comedy genre, "Wild sing" (tentatively translated: Wild Melody) revolves around the male and female band Triangle - once famous but forgotten after an event, now looking for ways to reunite to return to the stage.
In the movie, Kang Dong Won plays Hyun Woo - the leader cum "dance machine" who once dominated the stage with characteristic movements, but now lives quite faintly as his reputation declines. The contrast between the glorious past and the current struggles to become the main development axis of the character.
Hyun Woo's image is also built in a clear transformation direction, from the prominent idol image with a personal style to the simple everyday appearance when losing its aura. The revealed images show that the character appears with many different hairstyles, from dyed hair to curly hair, contributing to the journey of transformation.
To transform into the role, Kang Dong Won went through 5 months of in-depth dance training, including b-boying (street dance style), hip hop and group dance. According to choreographer Yang Wook, the male actor performed difficult moves such as turning his head stably, showing serious investment in the role.
Director Son Jae Gon assessed that Kang Dong Won not only portrayed the character well but also actively contributed ideas about music, dance and overall style, contributing to shaping the color of the film.
Besides Hyun Woo, the story also revolves around the remaining members of Triangle. Sang Gu (Um Tae Goo) - a rapper who was once full of enthusiasm but now becomes a "failed rapper" who has to make a living as an insurance agent, but still maintains his passion for music.
To prepare for the role, Um Tae Goo went through 5 months of "practice", regularly visiting JYP Entertainment headquarters and undergoing comprehensive hip hop training, from rap composition to performance style.
Meanwhile, Do Mi (Park Ji Hyun) - the central member of the group - attracts attention with a seductive stage image but in real life has a rough personality, creating a clear contrast. Even when becoming a daughter-in-law of a tycoon family, the strong personality of the character is still maintained.
Sung Gon (Oh Jung Se) - a famous ballad singer - reappears in a different image when he becomes a "hunter", arousing curiosity about the character's role in the group's reunion journey.
Through the characters, the film explores the journey of people who were once at their peak but have to face reality behind the spotlight, while raising questions about the opportunity to return and the value of passion.
The movie "Wild sing" is scheduled to be released on June 3 in Korea.
