On the evening of April 28, My Thuan Project Management Board (PMB) said that from 11:30 am on April 29, the Hau Giang - Ca Mau component project of the North - South expressway in the East phase 2021–2025, with a length of 73.2 km, will officially open to traffic after a period of temporary suspension of operation.
According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, to date, the items on the main expressway have been basically completed, meeting the safety conditions to put the project into operation.

Mr. Le Duc Tuan - Deputy Head of My Thuan Project Management Board said that in the initial phase, the expressway will not collect tolls, vehicles are allowed to enter the expressway for normal traffic.
According to the proposal of the Vietnam Road Administration, this expressway is expected to apply a level of 900 VND/km for standard vehicles (cars under 12 seats, trucks under 2 tons and public buses).
This toll level is applied to expressways that do not fully meet complete standards such as 4 lanes and continuous emergency stop lanes.
With a length of nearly 111km, the total traffic cost of the entire route is estimated at 99,000 VND/trip/standard vehicle. The toll collection method will be non-stop electronic toll collection (ETC), ensuring transparency, convenience and reducing congestion.

Previously, the My Thuan Project Management Board had a document sent to the Ministry of Construction on temporarily suspending the operation of the main route belonging to the component project of the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section of the North - South Expressway Project in the East, phase 2021-2025. The expected temporary suspension period is from March 16, 2026 to the end of April 15, 2026.
The reason for the suspension is that there are still some items under construction on the route such as drainage ditches, reinforcement of taluy slopes, cement concrete sidewalks... Construction in the conditions of the route being operated, although traffic safety measures have been implemented, still poses a risk of unsafety for people and vehicles participating in traffic, as well as workers and construction equipment.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project has a main route length of 110.85 km, with a total investment of more than 27,523 billion VND, divided into two component projects including the Can Tho - Hau Giang section, 37.07 km long, and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section, 73.2 km long. The route is invested with a scale of 4 lanes, and is one of the key national transport projects in the Mekong Delta region.
