On the evening of July 30, the national costume competition of Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 encountered an unfortunate incident related to the performance of the costume "Trưng Vương" by designer Nguyễn Huy Hoàng.
Accordingly, the costume performed by beauty Bùi Lý Thiên Hương named "Trưng Vương" was inspired by the historical legend of the Trưng Sisters. However, the commentary from the organizers quoted the famous saying of Lady Triệu: "I want to ride the strong wind, tread the fierce waves, slay the great whale in the East Sea, reclaim the country, establish independence, remove the yoke of slavery, rather than bow down and be a concubine for others."
In response to this incident, the organizers immediately had to stop the live broadcast on various channels and issued an apology to the audience right afterward.
According to the organizers' announcement, during the performance, they realized there was a historical detail error in the commentary. However, since the program was being broadcast live, it could not be corrected immediately. Right after the competition ended, the organizers quickly stopped the broadcast and removed the erroneous part.
The cause of the incident was identified as a technical staff member mistakenly using an unapproved audio file. Specifically, during the rehearsal night on July 29, Lady Triệu's quote was not used in the performance. The organizers also did not approve the addition of this quote for the official competition night, which was the designer's intention.

"More than anyone, the organizers take full responsibility and sincerely apologize to the audience. We hope the audience will overlook this unfortunate mistake and continue to enjoy the National Costume competition, appreciating the efforts of young designers to convey the traditional culture of Vietnam," the organizers stated.
This incident received widespread reactions from the audience, with many questioning the content review process of the program. In response to these comments, the organizers affirmed that they would seriously consider the audience's feedback to improve future programs.
Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 is a competition to find a representative for Vietnam to participate in Miss Grand International 2024, held in Cambodia and Thailand.
The final night of Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 is scheduled to take place on August 3 at NovaWorld Phan Thiết, Bình Thuận.
