On December 11, streaming platform Coupang Play released a series of teaser images for the upcoming Korean drama “Newtopia,” starring Jisoo (Blackpink) and Park Jung Min.
“Newtopia” is adapted from the novel “Influenza”, telling the love story amidst dangerous circumstances of late-enlisting soldier Lee Jae Yoon (Park Jung Min) and his girlfriend Kang Young Joo (Jisoo).
Together they fight in the city of Seoul, where everyone is infected with a mysterious virus. Both of them not only have to face zombies but also have to overcome difficulties and challenges to protect their love.
The newly released images show many happy moments in Jae Yoon and Young Joo's happy past, followed by chaotic scenes as the zombie outbreak turns the world upside down.
The chemistry between Park Jung Min and Jisoo received quite positive feedback. In the film, Jisoo has a simple appearance, she wears simple clothes and does not have elaborate hairstyles, but still accentuates her delicate features.
The photo of Jisoo and her "boyfriend" Park Jung Min hugging each other was commented as cute and a beautiful couple. Although before, when the project was first announced, many fans were not satisfied with the male lead Park Jung Min, thinking that his appearance and Jisoo's were too different.
According to Coupang Play, “Newtopia” will premiere on the evening of February 7, 2025. International audiences can watch the film through Prime Video in more than 240 countries and regions.
In addition to the participation of top Kpop idol group Blackpink, “Newtopia” is anticipated because it is the debut drama of film director Yoon Sung Hyun, who directed the award-winning work “Bleak Night” (2010) starring Lee Je Hoon, Seo Jun Young and Park Jung Min.
“Newtopia” was written by Han Jin Won, the Oscar-winning screenwriter for “Parasite” released in 2019.
Han Ji Won is also the screenwriter of the recently-anticipated Disney+ action series “A Shop for Killers,” starring Lee Dong Wook and Kim Hye Jun.
