On August 18, information from the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training said that the province is implementing a plan to arrange preschool, general education and vocational education - continuing education centers in the area.
Accordingly, Tram Tau Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center is merged into Van Chan Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center; Si Ma Cai Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center is merged into Bac Ha Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center.
The province also plans to establish Bao Ha Ethnic Minority Boarding High School and boarding general schools with high school levels on the basis of reorganizing primary and secondary boarding general schools in border communes.
Along with the school merger, Lao Cai plans to eliminate 243 satellite school sites, including 87 kindergarten sites and 156 primary school sites, bringing students to study at the main school.
For points that meet the conditions for facilities, the removal of remote school sites will be implemented in August 2026. The remaining points will be supplemented with facilities to be implemented in the 2027-2028 school year.
Statistics show that the total number of current management officials is 2,656 people, including 895 principals and 1,761 vice principals. The total number of management officials needed according to the arrangement plan is 1,483 people, including 473 principals and 1,010 vice principals.
According to the project, 422 principals are arranged to be vice principals. Among the 1,173 management officials subject to arrangement, there are 751 vice principals who are redundant.
These are expected to be arranged as teaching teachers, taking on professional team leaders and deputy team leaders, or being assigned to work at educational management agencies.
For teachers, Lao Cai basically maintains stable staff, and at the same time implements mobilization, assignment, and transfer from surplus units to underserved units according to job positions.
The arrangement and merger of educational institutions in the province is expected to be completed before August 30, 2026.
After the arrangement, Lao Cai plans to reduce 537 schools, 243 satellite school sites and 3,428 staff according to norms, including 1,347 management officials and 2,081 employees.
