Scarcity of cheap rooms, near schools
A week ago, Vo Thi Kim Mai (new student majoring in Veterinary Medicine, Can Tho City) traveled for many days in a row and still could not find a room due to scarcity .
"Due to difficult family conditions and having to ride a bicycle, I needed to find a place to live near the school, priced at 1 million/month. I searched for a room to rent for 2 days in a row, consecutively looking for 6 blocks of flats, but every place was the same. No room," Mai said.
While unable to find a room, Mai chose to stay with an acquaintance's family, then registered to temporarily stay in the school's dormitory.
"Renting a place far away makes cycling quite tiring. I also want to study and work part-time to earn money. Now I'm temporarily staying at an acquaintance's house, waiting for a room to be available and then moving out later," Mai said.
Ms. Mai Huong - the owner of a boarding house on Nguyen Van Cu Street, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City - said: "Most students come because they are looking for a place near school, with cheap prices ranging from 800,000 - 1,200,000 VND. Within Because it's about 5km, almost every block of accommodation is scarce, everyone wants to find a convenient place, so how can there be any available rooms?"
The boarding houses are still waiting
According to the reporter's research, contrary to the scarcity of motel rooms near universities, within a radius of more than 10km, even newly built motel rooms still have many empty rooms.
Ms. My Hoa - owner of a boarding house on Nguyen Van Linh street (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) said: "My boarding house currently has 4/10 empty rooms, priced at 2-3.5 million VND/month, 2 months. Currently, no one has rented the room. Some students came to see the room. I quoted a price but they refused because they didn't have enough money."
As for Mr. Nguyen Van Phi's suite of rooms (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city), although fully furnished and spacious, 7/15 rooms are still empty.
"Air conditioners, refrigerators, and tables and chairs are fully equipped, but the reason my dormitory suite is empty is because the road is difficult, far from school, and the price is high , so it is not among the top priorities for students." , Mr. Phi said.
Also according to Mr. Phi, entering the admission season, the need for students to find rented rooms increases. For students with difficult economic conditions, renting a room at high prices means they do not have enough finances to stay long term, so everyone wants to find a place close by, at a cheap price, so there are places that are scarce and places that are abundant. no one rents.
