In the 2025-2026 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that at least about 70% of junior high school graduates will be admitted to grade 10 at public high schools.
This year, the enrollment quota for grade 10 will be based on the material conditions, teaching staff... of public high schools, not based on the orientation of transferring students after junior high school as in previous years.
In previous years, the enrollment quota for grade 10 public schools was only about 65%.
In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will have about 115,000 junior high school graduates, of which more than 98,000 candidates registered to take the exam, then about 77,300 students were admitted.

In 2023, the 10th grade enrollment quota is also equivalent to 2024 with about 77,000 quotas. That year, Ho Chi Minh City had nearly 114,000 students graduating from junior high school, of which 96,300 students registered to take the public 10th grade exam.
Compared to 2022, the quota for grade 10 has fluctuated quite a bit, in 108 public schools enrolling grade 10 students, there are usually 68 schools increasing, 24 schools keeping the same and 16 schools reducing the quota.
Some schools have increased their quotas sharply such as: Ngo Quyen High School, Luong Van Can High School, Nguyen Khuyen High School, Thanh Da High School all increased 180 quotas. Trung Vuong High School, Nguyen Trai High School, Tran Quang Khai High School, Tran Phu High School, Tan Binh High School, Ly Thuong Kiet High School, An Lac High School, Phuoc Kien High School increased by 135 targets.
On the other hand, the sharpest decrease was Phong Phu High School (225 targets); Nguyen Thi Dinh High School for the Gifted in Sports and Physical Training (185 targets); Binh Chanh High School for the Gifted in Sports and Physical Training (180 targets)...
Notably, in the group of reducing quotas, there is Nguyen Thuong Hien High School. In 2023, this school reduced 45 quotas compared to 2022. This is the school with the highest benchmark score in recent years.
Some other top schools have also reduced their quotas such as: Gia Dinh High School (55), Mac Dinh Chi High School (45), Le Quy Don High School (35).

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will have about 90,000 candidates graduating from junior high school.
This year's 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6-7, 2025. Candidates take the exam with 3 subjects, including: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes).
Candidates who register to take the exam to enter specialized high schools in the city must take the fourth subject (specialized subject) with a time of 150 minutes/subject. Each major has its own exam subject according to the junior high school subject program, the exam content ensures the selection of students with talent in that major.
