A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) informed that in addition to Math and Literature, which are two compulsory subjects, there will be a third exam subject. It is expected that the Department will announce this exam subject at the end of March.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also requested schools and students to proactively focus on reviewing knowledge of subjects according to the format structure and sample questions for the subjects: Math; Literature, English, History and Geography, Natural Sciences, Information Technology, Civic Education announced by the Department at the end of 2024. This is the basis for building a question bank and creating 10th grade exam questions according to the new general education program.
The Department's leaders also added that secondary schools should direct professional teams to research and apply exam format structures suitable for each subject so that 9th grade students can get acquainted; strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject program...
In previous years, the 10th grade entrance exam was organized locally, including the number of subjects.
However, 2025 is the first year that students under the new general education program (2018 program) graduate. The Ministry of Education and Training believes that there needs to be national consistency, so it has issued regulations on secondary and high school enrollment from 2025.
For grade 10 admission, localities can choose to conduct entrance exams, review admissions or combine them. If there is an entrance exam, the exam includes Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined exam). This subject is selected by the Department from the subjects assessed by scores, but no subject can be selected for more than three consecutive years.
The test time for Literature is 120 minutes, Math 90, third subject 60 or 90 minutes, combined test 90 or 120 minutes. Localities announced before March 31, facilitating students to review.
As of February 6, about 20 provinces and cities have announced or expected the third subject. Except for Vinh Phuc, the provinces all choose foreign languages or English.
