Parents worry because many grades lack localized textbooks
At some large bookstores in Hai Chau and Lien Chieu wards (Da Nang City) in mid-August, the atmosphere of shopping for school supplies is extremely busy. However, besides the joy of preparing for the new school year, many parents are worried when they cannot find enough sets of textbooks for their children, especially in grades 4, 7 and 10 according to the new general education program.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (resident of Lien Chieu ward, Da Nang) shared: "I have gone to three large bookstores in the area but still haven't bought enough sets of 7th grade books for my child. Bookstores currently only have Math, Literature and Informatics books left, and subjects such as English and Natural Sciences have been out of stock for a long time. The staff said I have to wait for the next shipment but did not set an exact date, which makes me very impatient.
Similarly, staff at a bookstore on Le Duan street (Hai Chau ward) admitted that the situation of localized retail book shortages is happening for some grades.
Since the end of July, the number of parents coming to shop has increased sharply. Currently, most of the 4th and 7th grade textbooks are no longer enough to sell. We are actively contacting publishers to supplement the supply in time for people," this employee said.
This local shortage makes many parents have to go back and forth many times or look for old books from previous courses to replace.

Efforts to mobilize more than 35,000 sets of shared books to support students
To solve difficulties with textbooks and accompany students before the new school year 2026-2027, Da Nang City People's Committee and the local education sector are urgently implementing many practical support solutions. As of the end of July, the whole city has mobilized 19,268 new textbooks and 16,219 used textbooks through the "Common Bookcase" models and the "Day of Love" program. A total of more than 35,000 sets of textbooks are being distributed to schools to promptly support students in difficult circumstances to borrow before the opening day.
In particular, Da Nang plans to allocate a budget of more than 143.8 billion VND to provide common textbooks for general education and continuing education students in the 2026-2029 period, helping to reduce the burden of year-end shopping costs for families.
In parallel with the preparation of textbooks, the city also focuses on completing school facilities. For 6 inter-level boarding primary and secondary schools in land border communes, leaders of the City People's Committee have directed contractors to work overtime, mobilizing more than 2,700 workers to continuously construct to complete the entire project, install teaching equipment, dining halls, and dormitories before August 30th.
Da Nang Department of Education and Training also requested educational institutions to complete the review and equip learning tools, tables and chairs, determined not to let any students lack textbooks or school supplies when entering the opening ceremony on September 5.
