Can Tho University (ĐHCT) has just coordinated with domestic and international partners to successfully organize the 13th regular online SDMD (Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta, Outlook 2045) seminar with the theme: "Can Tho University - 60-year achievements and vision 2045: For the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta) and the country" on March 30. 3.
This is one of a series of events towards the 60th anniversary of ĐHCT formation and development (March 31, 1966 - March 31, 2026), marking a six-decade journey of dedication to the cause of human resource training, scientific research and serving the Mekong Delta region.
Role in the new context
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho University, said that after 60 years of formation and development, ĐHCT has constantly affirmed its role as a center for training high-quality human resources of the Mekong Delta region; a leading force in scientific research and technology transfer; a strategic partner in socio-economic development of the locality and the nation.
But in the new context, the role of ĐHCT is not only limited to training and research, but must become a regional innovation center; a nucleus connecting the knowledge - technology - business ecosystem; a driving force for sustainable development.
ĐHCT continues to focus on three strategic pillars: innovation in training associated with market needs, digital transformation and international standards; breakthrough in scientific and technological research focusing on 8 out of 11 strategic technologies, smart - sustainable aquaculture, environmental protection, renewable energy and digital economy; strengthening cooperation and community service, closely connecting the State - Scientists - Businesses, turning knowledge into practical value.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Tri Hung also determined that in the coming time, Can Tho City will closely coordinate with ĐHCT to build the University into a leading training, research and innovation center of the region, associated with new technologies and green economy.
Along with that is promoting the "State - School - Enterprise" linkage, considering this as a key pillar of the innovation ecosystem.

According to Mr. Hung, developing high-quality human resources is a strategic breakthrough, determining the competitiveness and adaptability of the region; in which, ĐHCT plays a core role in training and providing human resources for key sectors and future industries, associated with international standards and market demand.
High-tech development
The content of this seminar focuses on strategic topics, associated with the role of ĐHCT in the development of the region and the country.
The program also addresses topical issues of the region such as developing high-tech agriculture adapting to climate change, applying strategic technologies for sustainable development, and strengthening domestic and international cooperation.

Typically in the field of agriculture, Labor Hero Ho Quang Cua (one of the authors of ST25 rice variety, former student of ĐHCT) shared a practical perspective on high-tech agriculture, environmentally friendly, adapting to climate change, organic agriculture and food safety in the Mekong Delta.
Within the framework of the program, the signing ceremony of memorandums of understanding on cooperation was held, marking an important step in expanding the network of links between the ĐHCT and domestic and international partners.
The Mekong Delta Sustainable Development Forum, vision 2045 (Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta, Outlook 2045), also known as SDMD 2045, is a large-scale activity, founded and chaired by the Executive Committee, according to the Government's policy.
Since 2022, 12 topics have been organized, contributing to promoting inter-sectoral, inter-regional and inter-national dialogue, towards the common goal of building a sustainable and prosperous future for the lower Mekong Delta region.
