Typhoon No. 3 - Yagi and its circulation caused severe damage to 18 northern provinces, especially mountainous provinces. Many schools were submerged in water, causing damage to school equipment, books and teaching materials of students and teachers, greatly affecting teaching and learning at educational institutions in the coming time.
In order to stabilize the teaching and learning situation for educational institutions and welcome students back to school soon, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued Official Dispatch 5212/BGDDT-GDTrH dated September 9, 2024, promptly directing textbook publishing units to review and urgently report to the MOET on the number of books for each grade level, promptly prepare to supply and distribute to the northern mountainous provinces that were severely damaged, directly affecting the conditions for students to return to school after the storm and flood.
Implementing the official dispatch of the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam Education Equipment Investment and Publishing Joint Stock Company (VEPIC) (the unit that organizes the compilation and joint publishing of the Canh Dieu Book Series) and units in the VEPIC system (Northern Branch, Da Nang Branch, Ho Chi Minh City Branch, Canh Dieu Education Joint Stock Company, Phuc An Books and School Equipment Joint Stock Company...) have actively supported teachers and students affected by storms and floods.
The unit also organized a fundraising event to support flood damage recovery, with the full participation of leaders and staff of the VEPIC System. The amount raised was 124,148,000 VND and was immediately transferred to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) at all levels.
Previously, at the launching ceremony of the donation to support people affected by storm No. 3 organized by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) Trade Union at the call of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, the company contributed 100,000,000 VND.
In addition to the fundraising activities in response to the call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Vietnam Education Trade Union, the Ministry of Education and Training, the leadership and staff of the VEPIC System have prepared enough textbooks to provide to students in flood-affected areas who are using the Canh Dieu textbooks and materials.
The unit will mobilize all the remaining textbooks in the warehouses of the regions to transfer to Hanoi, which is 4.5 million copies. At the same time, print an additional 500,000 copies of some titles with low reserve quantities.
The number of books being printed is expected to be in stock next week. With the above expected number of textbooks, it is completely possible to meet the demand for textbooks to the Department of Education and Training of the provinces that were severely damaged by storm No. 3 and its circulation; plan and prepare a large reserve of paper, with the motto of "printing urgently, importing quickly" to promptly meet the needs of localities, ensuring that each student going to school has enough textbooks to promptly meet the demand for textbooks in complex situations that may arise.
Mr. Ngo Tran Ai - Chairman of the Board of Directors of VEPIC Company - said: "In the current difficult situation, to support and create conditions for localities heavily damaged by storm No. 3 to have enough books for students to go to school, VEPIC Company will deduct the distribution fee for localities heavily affected by the storm at a rate of 50%.
We are ready to promptly and fully supply to replace damaged books for students in Yen Bai province affected by storm No. 3 when students return to school. At the same time, we donate books to poor students in the whole province worth 247,250,000 VND; directly support students with 50% of the cover price for textbooks purchased to replace books damaged by the impact of storm No. 3".
