Students do not come to class, teachers come to home
This school year, A Ngo Primary and Secondary School has nearly 650 students, 100% of whom are children of ethnic minorities living in villages in A Ngo commune. Among them, many students are from poor and near-poor households, so studying also faces many difficulties.
Mr. Ngo Duy Hung - Vice Principal of A Ngo Primary and Secondary School said that in recent years, most students have known the school start date. However, there are still some students who are not present in the locality, mainly because their parents are working far away or visiting relatives. Therefore, teachers have actively informed and supported students to return to their locality from the beginning of the new school year .
Mr. Hoang Duong Hoa, homeroom teacher of class 6A2, A Ngo Primary and Secondary School, said that he alone had gone to the villages 5 times, visiting the students' homes. In the first few times, the male teacher went to remind the students to gather at school and prepare for the first day of school. For the students who were reminded but did not come, Mr. Hoa went to find out the reason.
Most recently, Mr. Hoa went to the home of student Ho Van Ngon, when Ngon was absent from several school meetings. Ngon's house is in La Lay village (A Ngo commune), a poor household and 12km from the school. When he arrived at the house, the teacher met Ngon and his father, and learned that he did not have a bicycle and was too embarrassed to ask his friends for it, so he did not know how to get to school.
Teacher Hoa immediately connected with his friends who were students at the school living in La Lay village, offering to take Ngon to school. He also reported Ngon’s difficulties to the school, so that when they could mobilize a bicycle, they would give priority to Ngon. After that, at the next meeting, Ngon arrived at school, although he was a bit late…
Persistently campaigning, students who dropped out of school also returned to school
According to the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province, as of August 31, the whole sector had 178,124 students, of which 41,880 were primary school students.
Ms. Le Thi Huong - Education and Training of Quang Tri province said that units are actively implementing solutions to mobilize students to go to school at the beginning of the new school year, especially in mountainous areas and difficult areas. Educational institutions, together with all levels and sectors, have increased their proximity to the area, propagandizing and mobilizing students and parents to send their children to school.
Thanks to good mobilization work, the rate of students returning to school after the summer vacation increased. Notably, 18 students who dropped out of school last year returned to school this year after being mobilized.
In this new school year, the scale of the school and class network is planned and arranged in a streamlined and efficient manner, creating favorable conditions for students to go to school. The entire local education sector has 398 preschool, general education and vocational education - continuing education facilities, of which 166 are preschools, 67 are primary schools; 81 are primary and secondary schools; 42 are secondary schools; 6 are secondary and high schools; and 24 are high schools.
Investment in educational facilities and equipment has been increased towards standardization, and the rate of solid classrooms at all levels has increased. The Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province has also mobilized and connected with units, organizations and individuals to have thousands of gifts given to disadvantaged students, encouraging them to go to school and study well.
