According to the regulations of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT), students are allowed to adjust their 10th grade enrollment aspirations until 5 pm on May 8.
Previously, the Department announced the number of students registering for regular, specialized and integrated grade 10 in the 2026-2027 school year in nguyện vọng 1 of high schools. From this data, students and parents can determine the competition ratio, as a basis for considering adjusting nguyện vọng within the prescribed time.
However, according to many teachers, changing aspirations needs to be carefully calculated, avoiding the psychology of chasing after the competition ratio.
Mr. Cao Duc Khoa - Principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School, recommends that students should not rush to adjust their aspirations just because they see the competition rate increase.
According to him, the most important thing is that candidates must correctly assess their abilities, and at the same time consult opinions from parents and teachers of major subjects such as Math, Literature, and English.
Semester II test results can be used for reference, but should not be considered a decisive factor because they are different from the entrance exam. Do not rush to change aspirations when you see a high competition rate, because if many people adjust together, the level of competition may change again, which is very unpredictable," Mr. Khoa said.
He also reminded students to reasonably calculate all 3 aspirations, in which aspiration 3 should choose a school with a more appropriate score level to increase the chances of being admitted to public schools.
Wishes 1 and 2 can be kept according to the target, but wishes 3 need to be safe," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Ms. Hua Thi Diem Tram - Principal of Ha Huy Tap Secondary School, said that right from the beginning of the school year, homeroom teachers have carefully advised students and parents on choosing aspirations based on academic ability.
The choice of aspirations has been calculated in advance, in which aspiration 3 is usually oriented towards safety, suitable for students' academic ability. We also predict the trend of registering in some schools should be consulted early, students will not be confused when there is information about the competition ratio," Ms. Tram said.
Ms. Tram also advised students not to worry too much or chase after the competition ratio, but to focus on reviewing.
At this time, the most important thing is to consolidate knowledge, practice test-taking skills, allocate time and maintain a stable mentality when entering the exam room," she emphasized.
According to regulations, the adjustment only applies to the order or choice of aspirations, and cannot be new or removed from the exam list.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that this year there are 151, 254 students registered to take the 10th grade public school entrance exam, while the total number of 9th grade students in the city is more than 169,000. Thus, about 18,000 students who do not register for the exam can choose other directions such as studying at private schools, continuing education centers, vocational training or studying abroad.
With a total enrollment target of more than 180,000, it is expected that about 78% of candidates will be admitted in this year's exam.
The entrance exam to 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City in the 2026-2027 school year takes place in two days, June 1st and 2nd, with three compulsory subjects including Literature, Mathematics and Foreign Language; candidates registering for specialized or integrated classes will take additional subjects accordingly.
