Choosing a major needs to converge 4 factors
The 2026 high school graduation exam has closed, but for many candidates, the next important problem is choosing a major and registering aspirations for admission. Before hundreds of training majors and information about "hot majors", "high salaries" rampant on social networks, many students cannot help but wonder and worry because they are afraid of making the wrong choice.
Nguyen Thu Hang - a candidate who just completed the 2026 high school graduation exam in Hanoi, said that she spent a lot of time learning about enrollment information and job trends before deciding to register her aspiration. "The thing I am most concerned about is whether that major is suitable for my ability and whether there will be job opportunities later" - Hang shared.
According to Dr. Le Danh Quang - Vice Rector of Hanoi High-Tech College, nguyện vọng registration can be considered a "future choice exam" for each student. Therefore, the first thing candidates need to do is to carefully understand the admission method, registration milestones, time to adjust nguyện vọng as well as the specific conditions of each major and each school.
From the reality of admissions counseling for many years, Dr. Le Danh Quang assessed that a correct decision needs to be built on four factors. First of all, it is the ability of oneself, because students need to clearly understand their strengths and learning abilities. Next is love and motivation, because only when there is passion, learners will be persistent enough to pursue a long-term career.
The third factor is the demand of the labor market to increase job opportunities after graduation. Finally, the actual conditions of the family, including tuition fees, training time, scholarship opportunities and support policies.
AI has a strong impact
Along with choosing a suitable major, many candidates are also wondering what are the promising fields in the context of AI and digital transformation being strongly developed. Many students are worried that many professions will disappear, while new majors are constantly appearing.
According to Dr. Le Danh Quang, AI is creating profound changes for the labor market, but that does not mean that humans will be replaced. “AI and digital transformation are strongly changing the structure of the labor market. However, AI will not completely replace humans, but mainly will change the way people work and the requirements for professional skills. Workers need to know how to adapt, master technology and constantly learn to meet new requirements” - Dr. Quang emphasized.
From the development trend of the economy, Dr. Quang predicts that in the coming years, human resource demand will continue to focus on three major industry groups.
The first group is digital technology, including artificial intelligence, data science, network security, software development, automation and technology applications in production and business.
The second group is engineering - technology and smart manufacturing, with fields such as electronics, electromechanics, robotics, automotive technology, semiconductor industry, logistics and modern production system operation.
In addition, the high-quality service industry group is also assessed to continue to maintain large recruitment demand, including healthcare, education, tourism, e-commerce and service management. "While choosing which field, the most important thing is that learners must equip themselves with solid professional competence, adaptability and lifelong learning spirit. That is the sustainable competitive advantage in the digital age" - Dr. Quang recommended.
