Nguyen Tan Tai - Muong ethnic person, from Thanh Hoa - has just become a new student of the Auditing major, Institute of Accounting - Auditing, University of Commerce. The male student was admitted with 25.07 points, of which Math scored 9 points.
Tai said he chose Auditing because he likes jobs that require carefulness, accuracy, logical thinking and a sense of responsibility.
Sometimes I want to drop out of school and go back to my grandparents
Orphaned from a young age, Tai grew up with his elderly grandparents. The family belongs to a poor household, and the lives of the three grandparents and grandchildren are facing many difficulties.
Grandparents were both caregivers and the greatest spiritual support for me throughout my growing up process" - Tai said.
In his high school years, the male student was oriented to study at Ngoc Lac Ethnic Minority Boarding High School, Thanh Hoa. The boarding environment created conditions for Tai to study and cultivate self-reliance, but also meant that he had to be away from his grandparents for a long time.
At that time, his grandparents were often sick. Sometimes because he missed and worried about not being able to be by his side to take care of him, Tai once thought about dropping out of school to return home.
Teachers encouraged him, and grandparents advised him to continue staying because this is a good environment for studying and training. Tai then decided to continue his studies.
Tai takes advantage of free time to study on his own, proactively asking teachers and friends when encountering incomprehensible knowledge. The encouragement of grandparents, teachers and friends becomes a motivation for him to maintain his studies until he enters the high school graduation exam and is admitted to university.
The day they found out that their grandchild passed the University of Commerce, Tai's grandparents were happy and proud. The two grandparents told their grandchild that when they go to university, they must try to study hard, live independently and know how to take care of themselves.
My grandparents said that even if I study far from home, as long as I am healthy, study well and live well, they will be assured" - Tai recounted.
Worries after enrollment
Becoming a student brings joy but also poses Tai with a new problem of living expenses. Studying far from home, in addition to tuition fees, Tai must consider rent, food, travel and other arising expenses.
I understand that my family has to try very hard to take care of my studies, so I don't want to create more pressure for my family" - Tai said.
The male student is practicing spending management, prioritizing truly necessary expenses and limiting unnecessary expenses. He also plans to study, trying to complete homework on time to avoid overload.
During the opening ceremony, Tai was awarded a scholarship by the University of Commerce. According to the male student, the support helps him cover a part of living expenses and the necessary needs for studying, thereby reducing pressure on his family.
More importantly, Tai sees the scholarship as encouragement in the early days of entering a new environment. He plans to use the money for studying and essential needs, and set a goal to maintain good academic results.
Although continuing to live far from home, Tai said that he will regularly call or text to ask about his grandparents, tell about life and schooling. On holidays, he will try to arrange time to visit home.
Want to have a stable job to take care of grandparents
During his university years, Tai set a goal to build a professional foundation in auditing, while cultivating foreign languages, informatics, communication skills and professional working skills.
The male student also wants to proactively seek scholarships, internship opportunities and suitable jobs to accumulate experience, partly reducing the financial burden for his family.
Tai's long-term goal is to become a professional auditor, have a stable job and income. When I can take care of my own life, I hope I am capable of taking care of and supporting my grandparents.
I don't set a goal just to earn a lot of money, but want to build a solid foundation for myself in terms of knowledge, skills and experience" - Tai shared.
According to the male student, when he has the ability, he will have more opportunities to change his life sustainably.
