Be a good teacher
Reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper received a reflection from Ms. Hoa (teacher at Phu Thuan Primary School, Hue City; the teacher's name has been changed) with many contents, in which, this person commented that Principal Nguyen Van Dang showed signs of suppressing teachers, violating grassroots democracy in the year-end competition evaluation.
According to the application, for many years now, Ms. Hoa has been recognized and highly appreciated by the professional council, and is recognized as an excellent teacher...
However, in the last two school years (2022-2023, 2023-2024), she was only rated as "Completing the task". This teacher believes that the principal's year-end evaluation of civil servants is not consistent with the actual situation of the teacher's dedication.
"The above evaluation of the results is not objective, making me very upset, scared, mentally depressed, affecting my work, reputation and honor in front of my colleagues" - Ms. Hoa shared.
In particular, according to the minutes of the meeting to evaluate the entire school's staff at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, the council members commented on Ms. Hoa as follows: Having a healthy, pure, and simple lifestyle. Making efforts in performing the role of teaching and homeroom teacher. 100% of students completed the study program and were promoted to the next grade. Won the "Encouragement" award for excellent teachers at the grassroots level. From there, Ms. Hoa was classified as "Completing the task well".
Depressed because of fighting for rights
Also in the minutes of the meeting to evaluate civil servants at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, there are 28 civil servants (not holding leadership or management positions), the evaluation has only 2 parts: One is the individual self-assessment and classification; two is the members comment on the advantages, shortcomings and classification.
Among these 28 people, Ms. Hoa received "special attention" when there was an additional comment from the principal, which included the following paragraph: "... evaluating and classifying the civil servant at the level of "Completing the task" is already too much of a favor. From Ms. Hoa's shortcomings, I, the principal, evaluate and classify the civil servant at the level of: "Completing the task".
Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Dang - Principal of Phu Thuan Primary School said that the reason for downgrading Ms. Hoa's rating from "Completed tasks well" to "Completed tasks" was because during the school year, Ms. Hoa was late many times, so at the end of the year, the emulation council voted secretly to lower her rating.
The reporter asked: "In the 2023-2024 school year, how many times was Ms. Hoa late? Are there any records to prove it? What basis or scale did the school's emulation and reward council use to lower Ms. Hoa's rating?" Mr. Nguyen Van Dang said that the times Ms. Hoa was late, the school did not make a record but only "closed the door and talked to each other"; as for the vote to lower the rating, the council discussed and agreed that Ms. Hoa was late and violated the time limit, so her rating was lowered, but there was no specific basis or scale.
Meanwhile, Ms. Hoa affirmed that during the school year, not only she but also other teachers were sometimes late. "However, basing my lateness on the evaluation and downgrading of the entire school year is unreasonable" - Ms. Hoa was indignant.
Ms. Hoa added that in 2022, she had to undergo surgery for a chronic tumor (with medical records), her health was exhausted but she always tried to complete her work at school. However, after 2 years of trying, she was still not recognized, and she was too tired from fighting for her rights, so recently (October 14), she had to write a sick leave application to go to the hospital for treatment and was diagnosed by a doctor with anxiety disorder - depression (with medical records).
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Ho Thi Ngoc Nhu - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hue City said that the department is working to process the petition that Ms. Hoa reported.
Mr. Truong Dinh Hanh - Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee said: "Currently, the city has directed the Department of Education and Training and the school to receive information, verify, and respond to teachers. In addition, regarding the contents of the petition, we have requested the department to have an inspection team to verify and handle each content. With the viewpoint of handling the right person, the right job and the top priority is to ensure stability for teachers and students to teach and learn best".
