On May 5, Dr. Nguyen Van Khoa - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training said that the education sector and related units are urgently implementing the process of converting Hermann Gmeiner Vinh High School to a public school model.
According to leaders of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, the conversion aims to create more favorable learning conditions for children of people in Vinh City (old), and at the same time contribute to reducing the pressure of enrollment at the beginning of the school year in the context of the increasing number of candidates.

Currently, Hermann Gmeiner Vinh High School has 67 full-time staff and teachers, with 39 classes and about 1,600 students currently attending. After the conversion, the school plans to enroll 675 10th grade students in the 2026-2027 school year.
According to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, this year's 10th grade entrance exam is expected to have about 53,000 registered candidates, a sharp increase compared to the previous school year. The whole province arranges 75 exam sites with more than 2,168 exam rooms, creating great pressure on the public school system, especially in the Vinh City area (old).
Regarding the conversion, previously the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Decision No. 4650/UBND-TH dated April 29, 2026, assigning departments and branches to implement Decision No. 735/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on arranging and reorganizing the SOS Children's Village system in Vietnam.
In which, the Department of Education and Training is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to advise on the plan to convert Hermann Gmeiner Vinh High School to a public school type in accordance with current regulations.
Along with that, relevant departments and branches implement the state-of-the-art reception of SOS Children's Village Vinh and affiliated educational institutions, completing before June 30, 2026 according to the direction of the Government.
