The latest typhoon and low pressure news on the morning of May 5th from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that low pressure 05b outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a high probability of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours. Low pressure 05b is about 2,595km east of northeastern Mindanao.
At 2 am on the same day, another low pressure area, 05a, was also being monitored outside PAR, but the possibility of developing into a tropical depression is low. Depression 05a is about 1,100km east of northeastern Mindanao.
Meanwhile, easterly winds will cause cloudy conditions with scattered showers across the Philippines on May 5, Philippine weather forecasters noted.
The Zamboanga and Palawan peninsula areas will be cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms due to the influence of easterly winds. Moderate rain, sometimes heavy rain, can cause flash floods or landslides.
The Metro Manila area and the rest of the Philippines will have weather from low to cloudy, accompanied by showers or localized thunderstorms due to easterly winds. The country's weather agency warns that flash floods or landslides may occur during strong thunderstorms.
