Simple joy
Every November 20th, teacher Phung Thi Vui - teacher at Ngoc Lam Secondary School (Long Bien District, Hanoi) receives many special gifts from her students. Not elaborate, materialistic, or luxurious, the spiritual and emotional gifts from her students are the most wonderful things she receives on this year's Vietnamese Teachers' Day.
The feelings and gratitude that her students gave her were the “sweet fruits” that she received after a long time of educating generations of students about moral values. She suggested that each child carry a raw chicken or duck egg inside an inflated balloon for 24 hours to understand the care and preciousness of their mother. After that, the children would be able to express their gratitude to their grandparents, parents by saying thank you, performing gratitude rituals, and giving handmade gifts to show their solemnity and respect.
Not heavy on theory or lectures, in a very natural way, Ms. Vui's students have grasped the meaning of the tradition of filial piety and respect for teachers.
“In addition to cultural knowledge, I always try to incorporate basic moral values, the most important of which is filial piety education, into my teaching. When children are filial children, with good moral and ethical roots, their behavior will naturally be appropriate, harmonious, and at any stage,” Ms. Vui said.
For students of Vinh Tuy Primary School (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi), this year's November 20th is even more special as it is associated with the school's 60th anniversary.
Nguyen Thao Nguyen - a third grade student at Vinh Tuy Primary School - confidently wore her performance costume and performed with her friends the piece "The School Keeping Thousands of Clouds" on stage. She and her friends practiced this piece for about a week.
Below are the loud applauses of parents and teachers. This is the way Thao Nguyen and her friends express their gratitude to the teachers, the mentors, and companions on their journey of growing up.
Teaching profession - The profession of serving hundreds of families
With 10 years of teaching and more than 22 years of management experience, regardless of her position, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa - Principal of Vinh Tuy Primary School (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) - always acknowledges that the teaching profession, especially primary school teachers, is under a lot of pressure from parents, students and the pressure of educational reform. However, seeing students grow up every day is a joy and happiness not only for her but also for all the teachers at the school.
“The teaching profession is like the profession of a daughter-in-law of a hundred families. It is difficult to please everyone, but you have to do your best. Thinking of the students as your children, you will overcome everything. If I had to choose again, I would still choose teaching,” Ms. Hoa shared.
For young teacher Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang - lecturer at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, November 20 is an occasion to receive the affection of her students, but it is also a time for her to remember and show gratitude to the teachers who guided and inspired her to pursue a teaching career.
“A teacher once told me that in this life, there are only two people who can be called teachers: doctors and teachers. If you choose to pursue a teaching career, you need to be really serious and practice a lot,” Ms. Trang shared, saying that the love, trust, and maturity of students are the motivation and happiness in this profession.
Talking about the teaching profession, Dr. Trinh Thanh Huyen - Director of the International Training Institute, Academy of Finance - also said that the teaching profession carries many heavy responsibilities, but is glorious. Teachers are also ordinary people with ordinary lives. Leaving the lecture hall, stepping out of the role of teachers, they are also students, fathers, mothers, children, grandchildren with the duty of filial piety and daily life, also having a full range of emotions.
But once accepting the profession, each teacher must always be aware of the responsibility and always practice to set an example for each student.
“The pedagogical environment is the cradle for developing behavior, forming habits and nurturing the personality of each student, along with family and society. Accepting the profession of a teacher means that each teacher must always know how to restrain and control himself to maintain the pure virtue of the profession, accepting to be a lifelong example to keep the two words “teacher” clean” - Dr. Trinh Thanh Huyen expressed.
Minister Nguyen Kim Son: Each teacher should continue to demonstrate dynamism, creativity and responsibility.
On the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training and in his personal capacity, Minister Nguyen Kim Son expressed his gratitude, pride and recognition of the efforts of all teachers - those who have been and are working in the education sector.
“The teachers are very good at their profession, very dedicated to their profession, working with all their strength, intelligence, expertise and affection for the students. The positive results of the education sector in recent years have had great contributions from the teachers.
I also hope that teachers will continue to demonstrate dynamism, creativity, and responsibility to express themselves more, multiply good things more and so that society will recognize us more.
