QS Top Universities has just announced the 2025 Asian University Rankings, in which Vietnam has 17 representatives. Compared to 2024, Vietnam has two more schools on the list: Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Vinh University.
Topping the list of Vietnamese schools is still Duy Tan University, ranked 127th, down 12 places from last year.
Hanoi National University ranked 161st, up 26 places; Ho Chi Minh City National University ranked 184th, up 36 places.
Ton Duc Thang University ranked 199th, but dropped 61 places compared to 2024.
Van Lang University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry recorded significant progress when they increased more than 200 places, being in the 491-500 and 501-520 groups, respectively.

The QS Asia Rankings 2025 includes 984 universities from 29 countries and territories. India leads the way with 193 institutions, followed by mainland China (135 institutions) and Japan (115 institutions).
Peking University continues to top the list. Mainland China has four representatives in the top 10, including Peking University, Fudan University (5th), Tsinghua University (7th) and Zhejiang University (8th).
Launched in 2009, the QS Asian University Rankings use 11 criteria, similar to the world university rankings but adjusted to suit the region.
The criteria include: Academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, international research network, number and citation rate of papers, proportion of lecturers with PhDs, ratio of international faculty and students, and proportion of domestic and international exchange students.
