Quang Tri - The new school year has begun, but the shortage of textbooks still forces many parents to buy them for their children.

Parents go to many places to find books

The 2026-2027 school year has begun, but some parents in Quang Tri said they still cannot buy enough textbooks according to the list to serve their children's learning.

On September 7, Ms. Hoai Thanh (Tan Lap commune, Quang Tri province) said that her two children had entered the new school year but still lacked some books. Before the opening day, the family repeatedly sought to buy them at bookstores but it was not enough.

Initially, her children lacked specialized books on History 10, Technology 6, Technology 6 exercises and Physical Education 6. Because they could not find enough to buy locally, her husband on a long business trip also took the opportunity to find books for his children but only bought Technology 6 books.

Up to now, according to Ms. Thanh, the family is still looking to buy History 10, Geography 10, History 10, Technology exercise 6 and Physical Education 6.

A similar situation happened to the family of Ms. Hoang Thi Diep (Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province). After many weeks of searching, Ms. Diep was happy to finally buy a 12th grade Informatics book for her child at Kim Anh bookstore.

Before that, she had gone to many bookstores, asked many places but still could not buy enough books for her two children. The books Ms. Diep had to search for included History and Geography grade 9, Math grade 9 volume 1, Chemistry exercises grade 12, Informatics grade 12 and Geography grade 12.

According to Ms. Diep, searching for books for many weeks took the family a lot of time. At times, she had to "burn her eyes" looking for books but still could not buy enough according to the list requested by the school.

The Department of Education will take back the matter

Not only parents, some book selling points also recorded that the supply of some book titles did not meet demand.

Ms. Kim Tra - owner of Kim Anh bookstore in Dong Hoi ward - said that the shortage of textbooks has appeared since the beginning of the book shopping season to serve the new school year and has lasted until now.

According to Ms. Tra, some books have not been supplied for about 3 months. Typically, grade 4 Math books, Volume 1 from the beginning of the season until now, the store has not had a source of goods to sell to parents. Besides, some books in History, Geography, and Physics are also in short supply.

Book shortages occur in many grades, in which according to store records, books for 10th grade students are the most in shortage. Some 4th and 5th grade books also do not meet the demand.

Even though students have started school, many parents continue to come to the store to buy the missing books.

If 10 people come to ask to buy books and notebooks, about 9 people ask for textbooks. There are important books that students need to learn, but the store does not have them for sale" - Ms. Tra said.

According to the bookstore owner, up to now, the supply of some books has not yet met the actual needs of students in the area.

On the same day, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Mai Huy Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province said that the Department has sent a document directly to schools to ensure the source of books for students.

According to Mr. Phuong, schools play a bridge role so that parents can access books directly from book distribution companies in the area.

Regarding the reflection that the new school year has begun but some students still do not have full textbooks, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province said that they will continue to grasp the situation to have a solution.
