After 4 months of launching, studying and preliminary exams in the regions, the practical battle round of the AI Young Guru competition - an artificial intelligence application playground for high school and vocational secondary school students nationwide - took place on two days, April 22-23 at FPT University (Hanoi).
The round gathered 81 contestants selected from more than 26,000 contestants from 34 provinces and cities. At the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee selected the Top 8 best teams from schools: Foreign Language Specialized High School (Hanoi), FPT PolySchool Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Le Quy Don Specialized High School (Gia Lai), Dewey Secondary and High School (Hanoi), Thach That High School (Hanoi), Nguyen Cong Tru High School (HCMC), FPT Hanoi High School and Phu Cat High School No. 1 (Gia Lai).

The Real Battle Round is organized in the form of a hackathon lasting 20 consecutive hours. The teams develop AI application ideas to solve practical problems proposed from the previous round, and at the same time build and test products with users. In this process, the judges continuously evaluate and add requirements for the teams to adjust and improve solutions.
Many topics focus on fields such as technology business, finance, urban transportation, agriculture - food, culture - creativity and education. In addition to product development, teams also participate in cross-valuation, contributing ideas and criticizing each other.
Time pressure and the requirement to complete products in a short time force contestants to assign tasks, coordinate groups and make quick decisions. According to the assessment of the Organizing Committee, this is a competition to help students practice teamwork skills, problem-solving thinking and adaptability in a high-intensity environment.
Ms. Pham Tuyet Hanh Ha - Head of the School Affairs Department of FPT University cum Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest - said that the 20-hour time frame is enough for the teams to handle challenges, while ensuring concentration and deep expertise. She shared: "This time period also creates conditions for students to connect, work in groups and interact with other teams. We believe that 20 hours is enough to bring contestants both challenging and memorable experiences in the Real Battle round.
After the hackathon, the contestants continued to enter the presentation and direct interviews before the judging panel. The assessment content focused on how to identify the problem, approach methods, the feasibility of solutions as well as the ability to respond to rebuttals.

Nguyen Tra My - a student at FPT Tay Hanoi High School - said that this is the first time she has participated in a large-scale artificial intelligence competition. "Previously, I mainly used available AI tools. When participating in the competition, I understood more about the process of building a product, from identifying problems to testing with users" - Tra My said.
It is expected that the final round of the competition will be held on May 3. Teams will continue to improve products and compete to choose highly applicable solutions.
