Floods in recent days have caused many areas in Na Sam commune (Lang Son province) to be submerged in floodwater. Some school sites fell into deep flooding before the opening ceremony.
After the floodwaters passed, teachers and parents were busy cleaning and rearranging tables and chairs to prepare to enter the new school year.
Ms. Duong Thi Thanh Nga - Principal of Na Sam Elementary School said that on August 23, floodwaters rose to the windows of the first floor.
When the floodwaters receded, teachers at school sites were focusing on cleaning and preparing conditions for the new school year.
On August 25, the school will spray disinfectant and sterilize the entire school grounds. Not only teachers, many parents are also present at the school to join hands in cleaning up.
Parent Le Thanh Lien said: "The floodwaters have receded, so everyone immediately supported the school to clean up. Each person helps with one hand to stabilize soon, and students have the best conditions to study in the new school year.
The busy cleaning scene also appeared at Na Sam Secondary School. A large number of parents and functional forces joined hands to support the school's teachers.
Ms. To Thu Hoai - Principal of Na Sam Secondary School said that the recovery work faced many difficulties because many teachers were far away and could not be present in time.
However, the school received active support from functional forces and people, parents.
The school is located near the river, so when the water rises, a large amount of mud and soil floods in, cleaning is quite difficult.
Fortunately, the school proactively moved equipment, teaching aids, and electronics to a high and dry place, so damage was limited," Ms. Hoai said.
Also according to Ms. Hoai, some classrooms and facilities of the school were affected by flooding. The school hopes to soon receive support to complete repairs and ensure learning conditions for students before the opening day of September 5th.
And at Cong Son Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School, Cong Son commune, a slide stretching from the mountainside to the school grounds once worried many parents.
On August 25, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Luong Van Mao - Vice Chairman of Cong Son Commune People's Committee said that the locality had gone to the actual site for inspection. At the same time, he assigned the Economic Infrastructure and Urban Department of the commune to contact the Department of Construction of Lang Son province to study and assess the damage.
The landslide location is in the area behind the school grounds with a length of about 25m, damaging some auxiliary works.
Functional agencies have cordoned off the landslide area, prohibiting students from approaching," Mr. Mao said.
Also according to the Vice Chairman of Cong Son Commune People's Committee, according to the plan, students will have a school opening ceremony on August 28. However, because many roads to the school are cut off, the school opening ceremony is still based on remedial work.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, floods have caused damage to many educational institutions in the area.
At Cong Son Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School, the estimated damage is about 500 million VND.
Chau Son Secondary School, Cuong Loi branch has about 20m of landslide soil. The landslide soil has pushed the embankment system close to the foot of the subject classroom area.
And at Thien Hoa Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School, Yen Lo branch, about 300m3 of soil from the taluy behind the classroom collapsed.
