Since the beginning of 2024, many localities have recorded cases of infectious diseases, digestive and respiratory diseases... Notably, the number of cases in children is increasing during the back-to-school season.

According to Can Tho Children's Hospital, there are currently nearly 200 cases of children with respiratory diseases, more than 100 cases of children with digestive diseases, and more than 10 cases of children with hand, foot and mouth disease. Regarding measles, in 2023, the hospital only received 1 case, but from the beginning of 2024 until now, there have been 16 cases of measles.

At this time, all students and children have returned to school to start the new school year. However, with the epidemic situation increasing, many parents have expressed concern and anxiety when sending their children to school.

Speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Kieu Phuong - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City - informed that right before the opening day, the Department coordinated with the District Health Center to spray disinfectants and kill insects for all schools located in the district; including 30 public schools, 12 private kindergartens and 15 groups of children.

According to Ms. Phuong, the Department of Education and Training has been implementing measures to strengthen the prevention and control of infectious diseases that may break out in the near future, especially measles, monkeypox, diphtheria, dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, pink eye, etc. to protect the health of students as well as prevent the spread in the community.

“Currently, after students and children return to school, the Department of Education and Training is continuing to monitor their health every day. Educational institutions are also proactively enhancing solutions to clean classrooms and landscapes, raising awareness among students and teachers, especially for boarding students,” Ms. Phuong said.

Proactively assess disease risk

To strengthen disease prevention and control during the school year, the Can Tho City Department of Health has requested the City Center for Disease Control to regularly organize inspection teams, monitor and urge direction on disease prevention and control; Closely coordinate with the Pasteur Institute of Hygiene in Ho Chi Minh City to proactively assess risks, analyze the situation to promptly deploy measures to handle outbreaks and organize vaccination campaigns.

At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA) to inspect and supervise educational institutions, guide the implementation of school health work, and work to ensure the health of children, pupils, and students...

In addition, the Department of Health also requested the District Health Center to closely coordinate with the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the district to direct educational institutions to prepare the best conditions, ensure clean hygiene, airy classrooms and adequate lighting at educational institutions, schools, nurseries and kindergartens; guide the implementation of disease prevention and control measures ; propagate and mobilize parents to take their children to get vaccinated fully and on schedule to enhance and protect the health of children and students.
