How to increase opportunities and reduce pressure
As a 12th grade student, Hoang Thi Ha - a student at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (Hanoi) clearly understands the pressure she is facing - the pressure of taking exams, choosing a career and the pressure that cannot be "wrong". Every decision at the age of 18 can affect the future, so Ha always tries to prepare many options, take many paths to prevent risks and find the most suitable direction for herself.
In addition to the high school graduation exam, the female student spent time investing in the competency assessment (DGNL) and thinking assessment (DGTD) exams, while submitting an application for admission to the high school transcript and reviewing for an IELTS certificate. Using many admission methods not only helps Ha feel more proactive in choosing schools and majors but also reduces the pressure of "betting everything" on a single exam.
"There are times when I am confused because the admission plans of schools are constantly changing, and there are times when I am worried because considering high school transcripts is no longer a safe ticket when the level of competition is getting higher and higher" - Ha expressed.
Choosing the admission method of combining academic records and IELTS certificates, Nguyen Thi Lan - a 12th grade student at Dong Hung Ha High School (Thai Binh) said that she is confident with her academic records.
"My academic transcript scores in the two subjects in the admission combination are quite good, along with the IELTS score being good compared to the general level. Therefore, I decided to submit my application to Hanoi National University of Education. This method helps me reduce the pressure before the upcoming high school graduation exam - Lan shared.
Notes when considering admission by many methods
As a person who has directly taught and accompanied senior students for many years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - a teacher at Nghe An Province Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities - found that each generation of students has different approaches on their way to university. In recent years, in addition to the high school graduation exam, students have looked for many other admission options to increase their chances of being admitted as well as reduce psychological pressure.
There is no one right way to go to university. The important thing is that they clearly understand their own abilities and choose the right method. For those with stable academic performance, considering high school transcripts is a possible direction. For those who have good foreign language skills, owning an IELTS or TOEFL certificate not only increases admission opportunities but is also a great advantage when studying at university in the future" - Ms. Binh said.
Ms. Binh also noted that each admission method has its own criteria and requires serious preparation. Running in multiple directions can sometimes cause overload and loss of concentration. Therefore, students should determine their favorite majors early, carefully research university admission information, thereby building a clear and effective review and admission roadmap.
Sharing with the contestants, Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Xuan Dau - Head of the Faculty of Information Security, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology - emphasized that choosing future majors and careers is an important decision, requiring students to skillfully compare their learning ability, personal personality with the characteristics of the profession they are pursuing.
For example, in engineering majors, if you are not really hard-working, tireless in learning and have the ability to think logically, it will be very difficult for you to succeed. Therefore, considering between personal abilities and the nature of work is necessary, instead of following trends or choosing to follow friends - Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Xuan Dau advised.
However, Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Xuan Dau also noted that no matter what form of admission candidates choose - high school graduation exam, consideration of academic records, separate exam or consideration of admission with international certificates, the core thing is still seriousness in studying, proactive attitude and a progressive spirit.
