US Ambassador visits the grave of General Vo Nguyen Giap

Quang Binh - On the afternoon of April 1, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper visited the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.

US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper shared that this was his second visit to Quang Binh province and the first time visiting the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Previously, he had the opportunity to visit and offer flowers in memory of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the General Memorial House in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province.

On this occasion, Mr. Tran Phong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Binh province received US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper. At the meeting, the US Ambassador emphasized that this year, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US, is a very important year that marks a historic milestone in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the US.

Over the years, efforts between the two sides to resolve the remaining problems after the war have played a fundamental role in the relationship between the two countries, including activities in the field of bomb and mine clearance, searching for missing US soldiers during the war as well as promoting cooperation in searching for missing Vietnamese people during the war, supporting people with disabilities.

The Ambassador also said that the US Government had previously stopped funding the operation of projects to overcome the consequences of bombs and mines in some localities in Vietnam. However, these projects have since resumed operations.

During today's visit to Quang Binh province, US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper wanted to see how these programs and projects have been restored and are operating and also to encourage those participating in these projects. The Ambassador also hoped that Quang Binh province would share potential areas and cooperation activities for upcoming cooperation.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper also affirmed the commitment of the US Government to continue supporting Vietnam in general and Quang Binh in particular to resolve the consequences of war through specific activities to heal the wounds of war, based on the principle of being honest with the past, together towards a prosperous future.

Receiving Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, Mr. Tran Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, affirmed that his activities in Quang Binh demonstrate the affection and concern of the Ambassador as well as the US Government for the people of Quang Binh province.

Mr. Tran Phong also introduced some famous tourist destinations in Quang Binh and suggested that the ambassador support introducing US investors to research, learn, and invest in Quang Binh and continue to support the promotion of the image of Quang Binh to US tourists.
