Changes in admission methods of top universities

Vân trang |

Many top universities have adjusted their admission methods to tighten input quality.

Eliminate the method of considering academic records

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that in previous years, academic transcript scores were used to independently consider admission to the school (10% of the target) or in combination with competency assessment test scores (30-40% of the target).

However, from 2025, the school will not use academic transcripts with either method.

The reason is that under the new program, each student will choose and have a transcript score in different combinations, so this admission method is no longer suitable. Instead, the specialized competency assessment exam will be one of the school's main admission methods in 2025.

At the National Economics University, the removal of high school transcripts for admission has been implemented by the National Economics University since 2024. Previously, this group of candidates accounted for about 10-15% of the enrollment quota.

In 2025, the school plans to maintain the same three admission methods as in 2024, but with adjustments to the quota for each method.

At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, from 2022 onwards, the school also only used academic transcript scores as a condition for admission based on high school graduation exam scores and thinking assessment. However, in the past 2 years, the school has also removed this requirement.

In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology said it will maintain 3 stable admission methods: Talent selection, thinking assessment test results, and high school graduation exam results.

Although some schools have not yet announced their 2025 enrollment plans, they still agree to say "no" to admission based on academic records, such as Hanoi Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law...

Meanwhile, some schools are also expected to reduce their enrollment quotas based on high school transcripts in 2025, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (reserving about 20% of the quota, a 10% decrease compared to 2024).

The reason why many schools decide not to consider transcripts is because they are concerned that transcript scores from high schools are often uneven and have a large gap. This leads to unfairness in admission.

Gradually reduce admission quota based on high school graduation exam scores

In addition to eliminating the high school transcript admission method from 2024, within 5 years, the National Economics University has reduced the high school graduation score admission quota from 70% to 15%.

In addition, the school will use 4 admission combinations instead of 9 combinations as in 2024, including A00, A01, D01, D07, with no difference in scores between the combinations, no additional criteria, and all subjects will have a coefficient of 1 when considering admission.

Previously, Nha Trang University was the first school to announce its expected admission plan, in which the school said it would not use high school graduation exam scores. Candidates will be admitted based on a combination of academic records and competency assessment test scores.

Many other schools also plan to reduce admission quotas based on high school graduation exam scores. For example, the University of Commerce plans to reduce admission quotas based on high school graduation exam scores in 2025.
