Attracting talent
According to Decree No. 179/2026/ND-CP, eligible students in basic science, key engineering and strategic technology majors are entitled to scholarships of 3.7-5.5 million VND/month.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hue - Deputy Head of the Training Department, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology - said that the academy has built a system of training programs with a high-tech orientation, strengthening research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and at the same time implementing talent training programs to discover and nurture students with outstanding abilities.
According to Ms. Hue, this orientation has many similarities with the objectives of Decree No. 179/2026/ND-CP when focusing on investing in developing high-quality human resources for basic science, key techniques and strategic technology.
Currently, training majors in the field of engineering and technology of the academy such as: Information Technology, Information Security, Electronics - Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, Automation, Artificial Intelligence... are all belonging to the STEM industry group that is prioritized according to regulations.
The Academy is also one of the higher education institutions assigned to train 5 master's and bachelor's degree programs in the fields of Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Security, Electronics - Telecommunications Engineering and Electronic Engineering Technology, and is also assigned to train human resources for the field of semiconductor microchip industry.
In addition to scholarships under Decree 179, the Academy also implements PTIT talent scholarships for excellent candidates, financial support, research, innovation and business and expert connection. This combination contributes to attracting good students to study STEM for a long time.
According to Ms. Hue, in recent years, the awareness of students and parents about technology and engineering majors has had many positive changes. Many candidates actively learn about human resource needs, career opportunities and choose majors suitable for their abilities, interests as well as personal development orientations.
The State's scholarship policy and the Academy's support programs will contribute to reducing financial pressure, so that learners can feel secure in investing in their studies and development in the country's strategic technology fields.
Improving training quality
Discussing this issue, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh - Deputy General Director of Phenikaa University - said that in addition to the opportunity to receive government scholarships, STEM students can also enjoy full scholarships from the school, especially for talent programs recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Phenikaa University also implements scholarships for excellent STEM students. In addition to supporting the entire tuition fee, students are also supported with living expenses up to 80 million VND/year, creating conditions to feel secure in studying and pursuing their passions.
Not only providing financial support, the school also arranges a team of lecturers and experts to accompany students from the first year, creating conditions for them to participate in research groups, laboratories and internships at businesses.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh also said that in 2026, the number of candidates interested in STEM majors tends to increase. The school has opened a number of new majors, and at the same time increased training targets to meet the needs of learners.
Expanding the scale of training needs to go hand in hand with investing in a teaching staff, facilities and research projects. This is an important condition for STEM students to have a learning, practical and research environment from the early years, thereby forming thinking, creative and adapting capacity to the requirements of technology fields in the future.
